John Cena is getting extremely candid about his breakup from Nikki Bella.

The two called off their engagement and announced their split last month after six years of dating, and on Monday, Cena appeared on the last hour of the Today show, and was asked about his ex-fiancee. The 41-year-old Blockers star didn't hold back, and said the split was a surprise to him.

“It’s been incredibly reflective which is amazing, but it is very difficult -- I had my heart broken out of nowhere, or for me, it was out of nowhere," he told Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. "And anyone who has experienced that knows that it comes with a series of bad feelings.”

Cena made it clear that he's hoping the two may be able to reconcile in the future, and said he's still in touch with the 34-year-old wrestler.

“For anyone out there speculating on what I am doing with my life now, I still love Nicole, I still would love to marry Nicole, I still would love to have a family with Nicole," he said bluntly. "There was an unfortunate set of circumstances where our relationship ended. There has been a lot of speculation recently about me being seen in public and everybody is thinking like, ‘Oh, John Cena is enjoying the single life.’ No, I was supposed to be married and having a honeymoon over these two weeks. It is the first time in 15 years that I have taken a vacation. I am in my house alone, surrounded by these emotionally strong memories and every day from 6-9, I get out of the house and talk to strangers as social interaction.”

"I don't want anybody else," he continued. "I love Nicole. I'm really trying to support her in her trying to find whatever it is she wants that made this fall apart in the first place, and in doing so, I'm also just trying to live. But I don't have any other hopes, other than one day that we can work it out."

As for Bella being open on her reality show, Total Bellas, over the years about wanting to have children, and Cena being adamant that he didn't, Cena said he had definitely changed his mind.

"I'm willing to go back on all of these things I said, and a lot of things I was holding on to just out of stubbornness -- 'I won't have kids' -- and it took a really strong look in the mirror for me to be like, 'Why?'" he explained. "This person is my number one, and it's something that's very valuable to her, and of course we can do this ... all of that switched because I love her. She's my number one and I just want to make her happy ... and right now, she's happy."

Cena said he's currently giving Bella space, but still wants a future with her.

"For anyone who's speculating what's going on, I love her, I want to be with her," he noted. "I want to make her my wife. I want to be the father of her children. I just want us to work."

Meanwhile, in a new preview of the season three premiere of Total Bellas released on Monday, Bella and her twin sister, Brie, argue about Cena during dinner. Brie says Nikki has made major sacrifices for her relationship with Cena, but that he hasn't.

"It bothers me because I know what you want  ... it bothers me that you're going to sacrifice all of it just because you're grateful John proposed to you," Brie tells her during the tense exchange, which occurred before the two broke up.

New episodes of Total Bellas air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on E!

ET recently spoke to Cena at Cinemacon in Las Vegas, where he admitted that dealing with his split from Bella "sucks."
