The actor brought his former co-star with him to the 2024 SAG Awards.
Taylor Zakhar Perez is gushing over his pal's big day. ET's Nischelle Turner spoke to the 32-year-old actor on the red carpet of the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday, and he recalled attending his Kissing Booth co-star, Joey King's, wedding to Steven Piet in Mallorca, Spain, last September.
"I was at the wedding. It was incredible. It was a fortress to get in," he quipped of the nuptials, which was attended by celeb guests such as Sabrina Carpenter, Michelle Williams, AnnaSophia Robb, Phoebe Dynevor and Kaitlyn Dever. "It was insane. It was beautiful, a class act."
Perez's friendship with King is still going strong. In fact, the actor, who is serving as one of two 2024 SAG Ambassadors alongside Ted Lasso's Phil Dunster, brought King as his date to Saturday's ceremony.
"She was a SAG ambassador before, so it just felt like it would be fitting to celebrate. We were in COVID times for Kissing Booth 2 and [Kissing Booth] 3, so we didn't get to have any premieres, really anything exciting," the actor, who starred in the Netflix franchise as Marco, alongside King's Elle, said. "We've just been kind of celebrating. I was at her Bullet Train premiere."
Just as the pandemic stymied big premieres for the latter two Kissing Booth films, the SAG-AFTRA strike prevented Perez from promoting Red, White & Royal Blue, the Prime Video movie hat features a romance between America's first son (Perez) and the British prince (Nicholas Galitzine).
"The strike was happening during the release of it, and we kind of just watched social media. We would see [that it was] number one worldwide, even in countries where it's illegal to to be queer," he said. "You're like, 'Wow, this is really hitting. It's striking a nerve.' I hope that it continues to."
As for his big role on Saturday, Perez told ET, "I was so excited when they reached out to ask if I could do it, 'cause they said we embody what SAG-AFTRA means. I work with a lot of charities and nonprofits, and SAG really takes care of its members."
Once inside the ceremony, Perez hopes the atmosphere is full of "sheer gratitude."
"We're so lucky to be able to be here. There's so many people in this town that would like kill to be on this carpet, to be in these projects, and just to have the type of growth that you get to go through when you book different projects," he said. "I think it's gonna be giddiness, joy. Just celebrating with each other is gonna be exciting."
