From TV favorites to musicians to acting icons, some truly incredible talents were lost this year.
As 2019 draws a close, ET is taking a look back at all the performers, politicians, writers and creators who died this year and celebrating the legacies and memories they left behind.
From prolific actors and beloved sitcom favorites, pro athletes and music producers, stand-up comedians to soap opera stars, the world lost a lot of hugely talented stars.
One of the losses that hit the hardest was when news broke that Luke Perry suffered a massive stroke. Just 52 when he died in March, tributes poured out for the beloved '80s teen heartthrob who rose to fame on Beverly Hills, 90210, and found a whole new generation of fans as Archie Andrews' dad on Riverdale, a role he was still filming at the time of his death. Perry was extremely well-liked in Hollywood and beyond, and his young age also contributed to the shock of his passing.
We also lost many longtime working performers this year, such as Diahann Carroll, a Tony-winning and Oscar-nominated actress who was the first African American woman to star in her own television show, Julia, and was in the first interracial love story on Broadway; beloved sitcom star Valerie Harper, who won audiences over the course of her five-decade career that included playing Rhoda Morgenstern on both the Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spinoff, Rhoda; and Broadway immortal Carol Channing.
Three icons in their respective fields also died in 2019 -- actor Peter Fonda, novelist and Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison and fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt -- and we also saw lives cut short far too young, like 25-year-old K-pop star Sulli, 20-year-old Descendants star Cameron Boyce and 33-year-old rapper Nipsey Hussle.
