Fashion had a moment that will forever go down in history at the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
With the exception of just a few stars, almost every actress who hit the red carpet at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday was dressed in black, as part of the "Time's Up" blackout, protesting gender inequality and sexual harassment that has long plagued Hollywood.
The red carpet is normally a place where celebrities are put on a pedestal. We marvel over who they're wearing, who had the best (and worst!) head-to-toe looks. But this year, it was about something more. It was about enacting change, and getting people to talk about the issues that celebrities like Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd and Reese Witherspoon have bravely brought to national attention over the past few months.
Needless to say, it worked. The movement got everyone talking, and the A-listers spent their interview time explaining why they chose to speak up, even offering solutions to how we can keep this discussion moving forward in 2018.
For the first time in awards show history, red carpet fashion was fully reinvented. ET breaks down how the stars changed the glamour game -- and made it their own -- for a good cause.
Statement earrings
While the official "Time's Up" pin, created and designed by Nocturnal Animals costume designer/stylist Arianne Phillips, was without a doubt the most talked-about accessory of the night, statement earrings were a big second. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gal Gadot, Penélope Cruz and Zoë Kravitz all went bold with their jewelry choices.
Plunging necklines and diamond necklaces
Kate Hudson, Emilia Clarke and Issa Rae all took the plunge, styling their low-cut dresses with pretty pendants. It's the return of the trend we saw last awards season, but with a sophisticated spin.
Splashes of color
Still staying true to the black dress code, Mandy Moore, Allison Williams and Samira Wiley took their looks to the next level by selecting designer frocks that featured a pop of color. The ladies all opted for vibrant hues, red, orange and yellow, which symbolize strength, joy, hope and happiness.
Sparkle accents
Kelly Clarkson, Saoirse Ronan, Jessica Chastain and Elisabeth Moss dazzled in gowns that featured gold and silver accents on the shoulders, sleeves and collar, proving a little bit of sparkle can go a long way.
Power dressing
Ladies, suit up! A number of actresses ushered in a new era of red carpet style, stepping out to the awards show in a variety of sparkly jumpsuits, blazers and dress pants. Susan Kelechi Watson, Alexis Bledel, Debra Messing and Claire Foy were a few of the stars who donned comfortable-meets-chic power ensembles, putting a feminine twist on classic menswear.
