Hilary Duff's hairstylist of 12 years, Nikki Lee, tells ET all about their collaborative creative process and her new blonde look.
Blondes have more fun! Celebrity hairstylist Nikki Lee of Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood, California, took to Instagram on Oct. 7 to debut Hilary Duff's new icy blonde look.
The hair guru, who has worked with the actress for 12 years, has created countless gorgeous cuts, styles, and colors for Duff, and this time, they decided on a softer shade just in time for the fall season.
"We've been through so many stages of life together," Lee tells ET of the How I Met Your Father star's ever changing hairdos, including cotton candy blue and pastel pink hues, '70s-inspired bangs, long extensions, slick back buns, and more.
"Hilary is always down to try anything. She's so beautiful and everything looks great on her, so we can really do anything," the salon owner adds.
As for their collaborative artistic process, Lee says, "Hilary is the queen of last-minute creative ideas and hair changes, and loves to keep me on my toes."
Duff is so experimental and unafraid to switch it up that there are even some 'dos the Coming Clean singer is willing to go for that the In Common Beauty founder disapproves of.
"There have been looks Hilary has wanted to try that I am not down for, such as wanting to go brunette with bangs," the hair artist spills.
The hairstyles they can agree on: "I love doing dramatic color changes on her, whether pink, teal, or platinum blonde."
For Duff's latest shade, Lee used the Joico Defy Damage KBOND20 Power Masque, a bond-builder that delivers transformative results with a single treatment, to keep Duff's locks looking luscious.
"Hilary was really craving a bright, creamy blonde for fall. … KBOND20 helps keep hair healthy, strong and super shiny. It’s great for blondes or anyone looking for some luxury."
Regardless of what they're doing, when the mom to Cruz, 11, Banks, 4, and James, 2, is in Lee’s chair, there's never a dull moment — or hair color.
"We are typically at her house, with her kids and dogs in the room, and lots of energy and good vibes. We love to chat about mom happenings, blast music, and look at funny TikTok videos," she explains.
