'Twisters', an update to the 1996 film 'Twister', hits theatres on July, 19 2024.
Glen Powell received some incredible advice from a Hollywood icon.
At Saturday's 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Powell chatted with ET's Nischelle Turner, shedding light on his experiences working on the highly anticipated film Twisters and the invaluable advice he received from his co-star, Tom Cruise.
Sporting a gorgeous brown suit, Powell couldn't contain his excitement about Twisters, teasing that the film has turned out exceptionally well and expressing his eagerness to share it with audiences this summer.
Reflecting on his interactions with Cruise, Powell revealed that the Top Gun star imparted wisdom that left a lasting impact. Cruise shared with Powell that "pressure is a privilege."
Speaking about the collaborative effort behind Twisters, Powell praised the team's dedication, remarking that they truly "stuck the landing."
Powell didn't shy away from acknowledging Cruise's influence on his career, describing his time working with the iconic actor on Top Gun: Maverick as the greatest film school he's ever attended.
"I mean, look, the amount that I've learned from Tom on, on Top Gun: Maverick, it's the greatest film school I've ever had. I, I learned from Jerry Bruckheimer, Joseph Kosinski, Chris McQuarrie, Tom Cruise. It's like that, that education is, is I've taken it on to every project since I shot that movie. So, the fact that we're gonna try to raise the bar again with this next one, I'm excited to see what Tom brings."
Although tight-lipped about the specifics of his involvement in the next Top Gun, Powell said Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have his number if they want him in the film.
Reflecting on his journey in Hollywood, Powell likened his career to a marathon, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself and avoiding regrets.
"You know, I feel like I have the benefit of the marathon, not the sprint, at this point where I've gotten a chance to see that if you miss out on a role, there's another one around the corner that's actually right for you," said Powell.
Admitting his versatility as an actor, Powell confessed he leaned into his trait of being able to play "douchey" characters for his role in Top Gun: Maverick.
Twisters hits theaters on July 19.
