Patterson spoke with reporters, giving his thoughts on where Luke and Lorelai would be in present day.
Luke Danes has spoken! Gilmore Girls star Scott Patterson had a little fun when asked about where his beloved diner owner character and his wife, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), would be in 2024.
In an interview with Elite Daily at the Critics Choice Awards over the weekend, Patterson gave his own update as to where Luke and Lorelai would be in the present day.
"They've got a couple of kids now," Patterson quipped of the couple, who tied the knot in the Netflix reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. "That's the big surprise, even in their old age and they don't regret it."
Patterson also gave his take on some additional characters including Luke's nephew, Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia) and Lorelai's daughter, Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel).
"Jess has come back into the fold. He's their nanny," Patterson said. "He runs a gym. He opened up the Stars Hollow Gym. Rory's back, and she's running the Stars Hollow Gazette. She's doing a lot of articles on the gym and on old people having kids."
The mother-drama drama ran for seven seasons and returned in 2016 for a four-part mini-series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
In A Year in the Life, Luke and Lorelai discuss the possibility of having more kids at an advanced age, even visiting Paris Geller's (Liza Weil) fertility clinic, only to decide not to move forward.
Talk of new Gilmore Girls has previously been delayed in favor of creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's award-winning show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which recently finished its final season.
In November 2022, ET spoke with Gilmore star Michael Winters, who played Town Selectman Taylor Doose, and he shared that his co-star, Graham, had given him hope about future episodes of the show.
"I remember when the reboot was over, I remember talking to Lauren [Graham] and saying, 'Well, I guess that's it.' And she said, 'Well, you know, I don't know. The fourth movie in that is very open-ended,'" Winters said, referencing the reboot's fourth film, "Fall," in which Rory (Bledel) tells her mother she's pregnant in the show's final moments. "She said, 'It's very open that we could easily come back.'"
In November 2023, Graham told CBS Mornings, "There is not a formal discussion of doing it again. There's always that fear that you want to leave it where it is best left. But we didn't know we'd be coming back to do those Netflix movies, so you really never know."
