From Disneyland and Six Flags to Broadway and the Louvre, entertainment sites and tourist attractions around the world have emptied out. Photos of these nearly vacant spaces look eerie, but staying away from crowds is a major component to keep the coronavirus outbreak from spreading even further. There were some festivals that still went on as planned over the weekend, albeit very few. Here's what these major venues look like now that people are in self-isolation and self-quarantine across the nation and the world.
Apollo Theater
The doors of the famous Harlem theater remained shut on March 26.
Kauffman Stadium
On what would have been Opening Day of the 2020 MLB season, stadiums like the Royals' home in Kansas City, Missouri, stood completely empty. The start of the season has been delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with League Commissioner Rob Manfred recently saying Major League Baseball is "probably not gonna be able to" play a full 162-game regular season.
Tower of Pisa
A worker outfitted in safety clothes and gear sanitized the Piazza dei Miracoli near the Tower of Pisa.
Venice Beach
Popular beaches in Los Angeles County tried to crack down on visitors after many were far too crowded during first weekend of the area's lockdown. Afterward, parking lots like this main one at Venice Beach were locked.
Westminster Bridge
With the London Eye visible behind him, a lone man was spotted running across the Central London bridge on March 24, which marked the U.K.'s first day of lockdown.
Delray Beach
A woman read a book at one of the beach entrances in the popular Florida resort town on March 23. She was surrounded by signs from the city that stated the beach was "closed until further notice."
Burj Khalifa
The Dubai skyscraper was lit up with the message "Stay Home."
The Fremont Street Experience
A fence was placed along Las Vegas Boulevard, closing off the major shopping district in downtown Las Vegas.
Hollywood & Highland
Normally teeming with tourists, the shopping mall in the center of Hollywood is now eerily quiet.
AMC Theater
The only sign of life outside this movie theater in Westbury, New York, was two wandering Canadian geese.
Bolshoi Theatre
A man was seen wearing a face mask as he crossed the empty square in front of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia, on March 20.
Bellagio Resort & Casino
The majority of the casino's exterior lights were turned off as the Las Vegas Strip went dark during Nevada's statewide shutdown.
Hollywood Boulevard
Rush hour looked very different on one of Los Angeles' main thoroughfares on March 19.
TLC Chinese Theatre
There were no tourists outside the famed Los Angeles theater on March 19.
Windsor Castle
The streets around Queen Elizabeth's castle in Windsor, England, were far quieter than usual on March 19.
Rodeo Drive
Before California went into near-lockdown, a few tourists still stopped for selfies on Beverly Hills' most famous drive.
NBC Studios
The entrance to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon only had a couple of people wandering outside it. Fallon himself has been doing his show from home.
New York Public Library
Signs outside the New York City library on March 18 stated that the public building would be closed until further notice.
Grand Bazaar
The cleaning department of the historic market in Istanbul, Turkey, did a thorough deep clean on March 18. The crew of the famed bazaar has been there every night, spending more than five hours each evening disinfecting the area, which includes 61 covered streets and more than 3,000 shops, so tourists and locals could still shop there despite the ongoing outbreak.
Acropolis
A few people walked across Monastiraki Square, which is located under the Acropolis in central Athens, Greece.
Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C.
Locals and tourists still stepped out in the nation's capital to see the famed cherry blossoms at their peak bloom.
Garden State Plaza
One of New Jersey's busiest malls -- located in Paramus, New Jersey, about 25 miles northeast of midtown Manhattan -- had a completely empty parking lot on March 18.
Eiffel Tower
A woman walked her dog while wearing a protective mask and gloves. She chose to head over to the Eiffel Tower, where she snapped a selfie of the iconic Paris landmark on March 18. The normally packed monument had very few visitors, as one day earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the French people will have to stay home for at least two weeks unless travel is absolutely necessary.
Las Vegas Strip
Casinos like New York, New York have been asked to close their doors, leaving sidewalks and overpasses in the heart of Sin City empty.
Municipal Theatre of Santiago
Only a handful of people were out walking in front of this theater in Chile on March 18, a couple of days after the country's president, Sebastian Pinera, declared a 90-day state of catastrophe to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
Buckhead Theater
An electronic sign above the Atlanta theater reminded passersby to "wash your hands, y'all."
Times Square
There were practically more billboards than people in the epicenter of Manhattan on March 16.
Tegucigalpa
A woman wore a face mask while picking up produce at a fruit stand in the Honduras town of Tegucigalpa days after the government placed "an absolute curfew" on the country's population.
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure
A sign greets potential visitors in Anaheim, California, informing them that all Disney parks are closed.
The Theatre of the Living Arts
Philly's popular TLA was closed but shared an important message along its marquee: "Yo Philly wash your hands."
Disneyland Park
On the first day of the closure of the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks, tourists still came out to take selfies in front of the locked gates.
Big Japan Pro-Wrestling
The match still went on in Yokohama, Japan, but most fans wore masks during their outing on March 16.
The Oculus
Inside the New York City mall was a closed Apple store, which usually has tons of people waiting to speak to employees.
The Louvre Museum
There were no lines at the famous Paris museum after it closed at 6 p.m. on March 14. French President Emmanuel Macron declared a ban on all gatherings of more than 100 people, as well as the closure of all schools, restaurants, bars, cafes and discos.
Broadway
Manhattan's normally busy 45th Street was eerily quiet during the day. On March 12, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo required all Broadway theaters to close through at least April 13.
The Veggie Grill
Restaurants across the country are being asked or ordered to stop allowing dine-in services, including this Seattle franchise location of The Veggie Grill.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
A large red sign outside the famed museum announced on March 13 that The Met was "closed today," a sign that may be up for quite a while.
Castro Theatre
The San Francisco theater's marquee read "Stay healthy and safe. We'll be back soon."
Six Flags Magic Mountain
There were no lines at the Valencia, California, theme park.
Disneyland Paris
Visitors could be seen in the reflection of the closed ticket booth window at the Paris park, though when this photo was taken on March 14, shopping and dining areas of Disney Village were still open.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall
The Frank Gehry-designed concert hall is usually a major photo op for visitors in downtown Los Angeles, but no one was outside after California Governor Gavin Newsom called for movie theaters and public venues to close their doors on March 15.
Madison Square Garden
The massive, world-famous arena in New York City was a shell of itself after all gatherings over 500 people were canceled on March 13.
Cloud Gate Statue
Known as "The Bean," the tourist attraction in Chicago's Millennium Park still had plenty of people clamoring to take photos with the reflective piece of art on March 13.
Razzmatazz
The Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Spain, was still lit up purple but on March 13, the marquee sign read "Back soon, thanks" in both English and Spanish. Spain's government declared a state of emergency that went into effect the following day.
The El Capitan Theatre
Hollywood's famous El Capitan Theatre still had its lights on but no one stood in front of the Hollywood Boulevard landmark.
SEC Men's Basketball Tournament
A worker cleaned seats at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena after the cancelation of the SEC Basketball Tournament was announced.
The Neighborhood Theatre
You tell 'em! The marquee at the Charlotte, North Carolina, music venue read "F U COVID 19" where band names would normally be featured.
Scotiabank Arena
Commuters walked past the arena where the Toronto Maple Leafs were supposed to take on the visiting Nashville Predators on March 12, but all games in the NHL, as well as the MLB, NBA and MLS, have suspended play.
Krakow Pinball Museum
The Polish pinball museum was shut down, with a sign in the window reading "Due to coronavirus Museum is closed untill [sic] further notice" in English and Polish. The country's prime minister declared a state of epidemic threat in force as of March 14; Poland's borders were under strict control and restrictions were imposed on museums, restaurants, pubs and shopping malls.
Lope de Vega Theater
Musicals have had to pause their performances around the world, including El Rey León (The Lion King) in Madrid, Spain.
New York City's Grand Central Terminal
It's normally impossible to move at the Metro North platform during rush hour, but there was no one to be seen waiting for a train on March 12.
'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'
Social distancing was in full force for the few allowed to be on set for the March 12 taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. As if it wasn't surreal enough for the late-night show to have no audience, Kimmel wasn't even the host that night -- former Democratic presidential hopeful Mayor Pete Buttigieg guest hosted, delivering a monologue to virtually no one.
Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Paseo del Prado
The streets of Madrid were bare on March 12.
The Wiltern Theater
The beloved Koreatown theater in Los Angeles usually has a packed schedule filling up their marquee, but it's been cleared out to just say "March 2020."
Berliner Philharmonie
A lone woman holding an umbrella and one couple could be seen passing the Berlin, Germany, concert hall that's home to the Berlin Philharmonic on March 12.
Humayuns Tomb
The front lawn of this historical site in New Delhi, India, is usually packed with people, but just a handful took in the site on March 12.
Hell and Heaven 2020
While large gatherings have been banned across most of the United States, the same isn't true for all other countries. Hell and Heaven 2020 still kicked off in Toluca, Mexico, on March 14. Many metal fans wore masks to protect themselves, and Megadeth and King Diamond pulled out of their scheduled performances at the fest.
Vive Latino 2020
A huge music festival still went on in Mexico City on March 14, but medical services were set up at Vive Latino's entrance.
ToyCon 2020
The Las Vegas Toy and Comic Convention still went on as planned at the Eastside Cannery Casino Hotel on March 14, but some attendees made sure to keep masks on -- and creative ones at that.
23rd Malaga Film Festival
Workers began dismantling the red carpet in front of Teatro Cervantes in Malaga, Spain, on March 11 as word got around that the annual film festival had been canceled.
Universal Studios Japan
