U.S. Women's National Soccer Team Celebrates With Mega Parade in New York City

The streets of New York City were lined with excited fans from all over the country to celebrate the homecoming of the U.S. Women's National Soccer team, who won the 2019 Women's World Cup in France on July 7. Star forward and co-captain Megan Rapinoe led the back-to-back champs in the celebration, cheering from the floats as they made their way down the Canyon of Heroes. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo gleefully stood with a few of the 23 members of the team during the victory parade, which came shortly after he gave a speech that included how deserving the team is of receiving equal pay to their male counterparts.

A young girl was hoisted up onto her dad's shoulders, where she cheered with a red, white and blue pom-pom in hand while rocking dozens of matching beads and flag face paint. An "equal pay" sign could be seen being held up in the background behind her, and that chant was heard throughout the parade and City Hall ceremony.
