From BFFs like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber to longtime loves like Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, plenty of duos get ink to commemorate big moments in their lives. Here are some of the stars who are permanently connected to each other and what their tattoos look like.
Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young
The newlyweds, who tied the knot in October 2021, revealed new matching tattoos of their wedding date on their left forearms. That wasn't the only new ink for the pair, however! The two also got each other's initials tattooed onto their wrist -- 'TEM' on Heather and 'HEM' on Tarek. "I got my first tattoo almost 25 years ago and it was so bad a promised myself I’d never get another! Yesterday….I broke my promise😬" The Flip or Flop alum wrote on Instagram. "This time, it’s not an all black crooked tribal on my back🤣🤣🤣, it’s something extremely meaningful. And because it’s meaningful, it feels different and I’ll always love it! It started out as just @heatherraeyoung and I getting our wedding date. Last minute, before we got there, I decided I also really wanted the kids birthdays and her initials! So now, I have 3 special dates and Heather’s initials on my left arm. We also left some spots open for future kid/kids, yes I said it❤️."
Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson
King Triton would be proud! After only five months of dating, the singers each got trident symbols placed on their arms in March 2020. Cyrus' is an outline on her inner left wrist, while Simpson's is a filled-in black image on his upper left arm. "'Some mornings it’s like the sun rises only for her' Prince Neptune," Los Angeles tattoo artist Nico Bassill captioned the image while showing off the duo's fresh ink.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend
The former Sports Illustrated cover girl got the names "John, Luna and Miles" scrawled on the inside of her forearm in cursive in April 2019. The body art honors her husband and their daughter and son. Likewise, Legend had "Chrissy, Luna and Miles" scrawled on the inside of his right bicep. In her caption, Teigen jokingly took note of their new "cool tattoo family" status. "Hey guys, please don’t talk to us unless u have tattoos we are a cool tattoo family now and we only want to talk to other tattoo families ([sorry] if this seems harsh)," she wrote. "Thank you thank you @winterstone. You are not only incredibly talented but you are very kind and delightful and welcome over any time!!"
Steph and Ayesha Curry
The NBA pro and his wife got matching geometric animal tattoos in honor of their kids, son Canon and daughters Riley and Ryan. "He luhhhhh matching my swag (***these are our babies signs we have for them)," Ayesha revealed on Instagram in December 2019. "Each has a deeper meaning and representation to us. Canon will always be our young wolf. Ryan our butterfly (this one makes me cry with joy just thinking about it) and Riley our horse (free spirited, which we turned into a unicorn because she’s our magical first born). Thank you again to @winterstone!!!"
Selena Gomez and Julia Michaels
Following Michaels' concert at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, California, in November 2019 -- during which Gomez surprised the crowd by taking the stage to perform their song, "Anxiety" -- she and Gomez got arrows inked backstage. Tattoo artists London Reese and Brad Reis took to their Instagram Stories to document their time inking the pop stars. In the pics, Michaels can be seen drawing on Gomez's wrist before having the tattoo artist step in. On Reese's Story, he revealed that the women opted for "matching tatties" during the ink session.
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
The husband-and-wife duo immortalized their precious puppy, Waldo Picasso Jonas, with a tattoo of the Alaskan Klee Kai's sweet, furry face on their arms. Jonas -- who adopted Waldo in April 2018 with Turner -- took to Instagram in July 2019 to share a snapshot of the fresh ink, which will serve as a permanent memorial to his beloved canine companion. "R.I.P. my little angel," the "Sucker" singer captioned the pic of the heartfelt body art, which resides in a prominent location on his right forearm, surrounded by a number of the artist's other tattoos. Jonas and Tuner's dog was sadly hit and killed by a car while on a walk in New York City one week prior.
A few months earlier, they both popped in to see Mr. K at Bang Bang Tattoos in New York City to get a Disney-themed tattoo together, with "To infinity" written in script inside Jonas' wrist and "& beyond" in matching lettering on the inside of Turner's.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles
The Walking Dead actor revealed that he and his former Supernatural co-stars all got matching tattoos -- at his wedding reception! "Me and @hilarieburton weren't the only ones joined for life.... @jaredpadalecki@jensenackles and myself will forever have a bond that is both special, and permanent," Morgan captioned his Instagram collage in October 2019, which shows him, Padalecki and Ackles all getting some ink on their wrists. "Love you both dearly. #jmb #spnfamily." Under the image, Padalecki commented, "Family who slays together, stays together. #kongsforever #spnfamily," which references the fact that Morgan played John Winchester, the father of Ackles and Padalecki's Supernatural characters.
At a fan convention in Toronto, Ackles explained that they all got crowns -- which was the only symbol of the small designs that Morgan had specifically requested be on the menu at his wedding -- and that the trio now calls themselves the three kings. “It’s actually a ‘W’ for Winchester,” Ackles explained of the crown. "There are a lot of different cool meanings that just made sense. It was time," Padalecki added.
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and her beau each got tiny butterfly tattoos. The couple shared photos of their itty bitty tats on their Snapchat accounts in June 2017, which US Weekly first pointed out. Jenner's tattoo is on the back of her ankle on her right leg, while Scott's is on the same spot but on his left leg. At the time, the rapper had a new single out called "Butterfly Effect," which many speculated was about his relationship with Jenner.
Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams
The Game of Thrones co-stars and BFFs -- who played Sansa and Arya Stark on the HBO hit, respectively -- each had "07.08.09" inked onto their arms in September 2016. The date marks when they learned they were cast on GoT, which is Aug. 7, 2009 -- the date is written in U.K. formatting.
Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Janel Parrish, Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario and Sasha Pieterse
To commemorate the end of Pretty Little Liars, the co-stars headed to the Shamrock Social Club in West Hollywood, California, in October 2016. Each girl got a single initial written on their pointer finger. "This happened," Hale captioned a group shot of the new ink. "Thank you@shamrocksocialclub for taking care of us. We couldn't not get tattoos to commemorate the show! And obviously on our ‘shh’ finger." Parrish followed suit, tweeting a cast snapshot with the caption, "We got the SHH immortalized #pllforever." The impromptu tattoo session represented the end of one "chapter" and a birthday celebration for Bellisario, who turned 31 shortly thereafter.
Miley Cyrus and Elsa Pataky
She may no longer be with Liam Hemsworth, but Cyrus is forever connected to his family. Along with two other friends, the Happy Hippie has a matching tattoo with Pataky, who is married to Liam's brother, Chris Hemsworth. The simple black line design was drawn up for them by pro surfer Kelly Slater and inked by Australian tattoo artist Lauren Winzer in April 2016. Four years later, Pataky told Vogue Australia that she wouldn't take back any of her tattoos, including the matching ink with Cyrus. "I don't regret any of them," she said. "They’re symbols and I love having them and it reminds me of those moments."
Macaulay Culkin and Paris Jackson
In an interview with Esquire in early 2020, the Home Alone star revealed what inspired him and his goddaughter to get spoons permanently inked on their forearms at Tattoo Mania in West Hollywood, California, in July 2017. Culkin told the outlet that it all started with a quirky habit he passed on to Jackson -- stealing spoons from restaurants, cafés, airplanes, etc. "It's harmless," he explained. "It's a harmless thing. It's not like you're ruining something, like stealing a chess piece, where the board would be incomplete." Culkin reveals that he and Jackson now gift each other with spoons. He says that he even gave her some wise advice relating to his spoon-stealing habit over the years. "Don't forget to be silly," Culkin advised. "Don't forget to take something away from this whole experience, and don't forget to stick something up your sleeve."
Joe and Nick Jonas
The brothers got arrows pointing to each other permanently sketched onto the back of their arms just ahead of the 2016 Video Music Awards. That night, Joe 's band, DNCE, was nominated for Best New Artist, while Nick was at the awards show to perform "Bacon" with Ty Dolla $ign.
Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott
In April 2016, the reality couple celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary with a romantic tour-de-Europe, where they received matching tattoos at Tin Tin Tattoo Parlor in Paris. The his-and-hers fresh ink spell out "Tout mon coeur, tout ma vie," which translates to "My whole heart, my whole life."
Selena Gomez, Tommy Dorfman and Alisha Boe
The 13 Reasons Why executive producer and two of the Netflix series' cast members shared photos of their matching semi-colon wrist tattoos in April 2017, along with messages for what the ink means to them. "I have received so much love and support from all of you who are watching 13 Reasons Why," Boe wrote "Today- Tommy, Selena and I got tattoos of a semicolon. Project semicolon is a movement dedicated to presenting hope for those suffering from depression, thoughts of suicide, addiction, and self-injury. Rest In Peace Amy Bluel, who started this movement. Love you all." The series deals with depression and suicide, and co-star Dorfman shared his own struggles with the disorder on Instagram, captioning his photo of the trio, "Today was a magical day. Another day to be grateful to be alive. Alisha, Selena, and I went together to get ; tattoos. The ; symbol stands for an end of one thought and a beginning of another. Instead of a period, authors use the semicolon to continue a sentence. For us, it means a beginning of another chapter in life, in lieu of ending your life." Gomez also posted about the tats, writing, "Wish the rest of the crew was with us today. Overwhelmed with the response and love @13reasonswhy is receiving. Thank you to each beautiful person who has watched and talked about the message of our show."
Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber
Who needs a BFF necklace when you can get matching tattoos instead? That's exactly what the model BFFs did when they got broken hearts tattooed on their middle fingers in August 2015. Bieber showed off their new body art on Snapchat; she opted for red ink, while Jenner went with white. Interestingly, the two seemed to get inked on the 18th birthday of Kendall's little sister, Kylie Jenner.
Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn
It was double the body art for these models, who both got "DD" etched into their right hips in June 2014. "@officialjdunn so happy we got our DDs! Thank you @bangbangnyc #throwsomedsonthat #DDs4life ❤️," Delevingne captioned an Instagram post of the pair showing off their fresh ink.
Hailey Bieber and Ireland Baldiwn
The Baldwin cousins each had their last name (i.e. Bieber's maiden name) written in cursive on the insides of their middle fingers. The delicate work was done by celeb tattoo artist Jon Boy in July 2015.
Miranda Lambert, RaeLynn and Gwen Sebastian
Lambert's Certified Platinum Tour was not something she wanted to forget! The country crooner and her tourmates decided to get music notes inked on their arms as reminders of their time on the road together. "I love @raelynnofficial and @gwensebastian! Inked in perfect harmony!" Lambert wrote in a now-deleted Instagram. Posting nearly the same photo, Raelynn added, "On your last show you get inked in perfect harmony." The Tulsa, Oklahoma, concert had been the last Certified Platinum stop for RaeLynn. Weeks before making it official, RaeLynn revealed the girls' plans to get inked to ETonline, sharing, "We might get 'em in Tulsa. [Miranda] got one on her first tour, so I was like, 'I wanna get a tattoo on my first tour!'"
Amy Duggar and Dillon King
This isn't something you see in the Duggar family every day! The Kings debuted their matching ink on Instagram in February 2016, which was the phrase "rest in the storm" on their forearms. "To enjoy shelter from the storms of life we are going to remember to focus on God's promise and His presence. #restinthestorm #dillandduggs #myhandwriting ?," Amy shared. It was her first time getting inked, but her hubby already had a few tattoos at that point.
Cara Delevingne and Alexander DeLeon
The model and the frontman of The Cab each got the Roman numeral for 12 inked on them. Delevingne's is on her rib, while DeLeon's is on his right forearm. "12 is a magic number #XII," the English actress explained in November 2014.
Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth
All but one of the originals Avengers cast is officially “bonded for life.” Evans, Renner, Downey Jr., Johansson and Hemsworth revealed that they all got matching tattoos in May 2018 as a tribute to their decade-plus time with the blockbuster Marvel franchise, which at the time had recently released its latest installment, Avengers: Infinity War. Their sixth core castmate, Mark Ruffalo, refrained from going under the needle. The artwork depicts the Avengers logo along with the number six, to represent the six original stars. "Well team, we did it...?" Renner captioned a pic with the tattoo artist, Joshua Lord. "Thank you @joshualord for sharing ink with us all @avengers much love #eastsideink #bondedforlife @robertdowneyjr @chrishemsworth #chrisevans #scarjo #loveUall."
Beyonce and JAY-Z
The married music megastars both have "IV" written on their ring fingers to symbolize their 2008 wedding, though Queen Bey appears to have updated hers slightly to more closely resemble an elongated four.
