Formerly Prince Charles, King Charles III legally took on the role of king the moment of Queen Elizabeth II's death. He is the longest serving heir to the throne in England's history, at age 73, and will likely be formally crowned within the next year.

Born: Nov. 14, 1948

King Charles III's eldest son is next in the line of succession to the British throne after his father. The former member of the British Armed Forces is married to Kate Middleton, with whom he has three children. Formerly known as the Duke of Cambridge, William was made Prince of Wales, a title reserved for the monarchy's heir apparent, on Sept. 9.
