The center, which is funded by Madonna's Raising Malawi charitable organization, is located on the campus of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, the country's largest referral hospital. Since opening last year, the talented staff at MJC has admitted nearly 1,500 patients into its ward, and performed 1,690 pediatric surgeries (more than double the annual average).

The sizeable grant was awarded at a school-wide assembly at Ed W. Clark High School on Sept. 21 where a group of band and orchestra students performed a cover of Imagine Dragons' hit single "Radioactive," before the group then performed a live set for the students in the auditorium. The education grant will be used to provide musical instruments to the three schools, as well as expand their existing music programs.
