Nope, your memory isn't playing a trick on you! The beloved Nickelodeon show, which premiered on Halloween 1991, showcased some then-unfamiliar but now very familiar faces.

'Are You Afraid of the Dark?'
Nickelodeon
Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a popular Canadian television series that ran on Nickelodeon's SNICK from 1992 until 2000. Though this was helmed as a kids show, some of the episodes were just outright creepy. To nostalgic fans' delight, episodes recently became available on Amazon Instant.
Here is a look back at some of the notable stars-in-the-making who appeared throughout the series.
Here is a look back at some of the notable stars-in-the-making who appeared throughout the series.
Ryan Gosling (1995)
Nickelodeon
When Gosling was just 15 years old, starting out his acting career in his homeland of Canada, he made an appearance in the episode "The Tale of Station 109.1" as the brother of Jamie, a boy who discovers a radio station that takes its listeners to the afterlife.
Melissa Joan Hart (1993)
Nickelodeon
Clarissa Explains it All was well into its fourth season when MJH appeared in "The Tale of the Frozen Ghost." She played a babysitter looking after a spoiled rich kid when they discover a ghost haunting his aunt's country house during the cold winter. This episode is actually pretty messed up as far as children's television goes. A frozen dead kid complaining that he's cold is enough to give anyone nightmares.
Elisha Cuthbert (1996)
Nickelodeon
Elisha started her stint on Are You Afraid of the Dark? as "Young Girl" in "The Tale of the Night Shift" with Entourage star Emanuelle Chriqui. A few years later, she became a regular member of The Midnight Society, appearing in 24 episodes and the TV movie.
Hayden Christensen (1999)
Nickelodeon
Hayden Christensen has graced us with an array of pre-breakthrough roles before he was (spoiler) killing younglings in Star Wars. One such appearance was in "The Tale of Bigfoot Ridge" where Dani and her brother Kirk (Christensen) search for a friend who mysteriously skied off into an isolated area near their mountain home.
Tia & Tamera Mowry (1995)
Nickelodeon
Sister, Sister was well into its third season when the duo appeared in "The Tale of the Chameleons." When a chameleon bites a Mowry in the pet store, the lizard takes on her form and plots to take over the world. If you're going to have twin actresses, you better have them appear as evil versions of each other, otherwise it's pretty much a waste.
Neve Campbell (1994)
Nickelodeon
Two years before the release of Scream, Neve appeared in "The Tale of the Dangerous Soup." The Party of Five actress plays a waitress where recurring character Dr. Vink's soup restaurant is the talk of the town. Yes, there's a soup-themed episode, and it's actually pretty good.
Aaron Ashmore (1993)
Nickelodeon
Aaron Ashmore, best known for Smallville, appeared in "The Tale of the Thirteenth Floor" as Billy. His character spends time on the unused 13th floor of their apartment building with his sister Karin, until one day they visit the floor and find everything has changed.
Ashmore appeared in an additional episode.

Tara Lipinski (2000)
Nickelodeon
In the prime of her professional figure skating career, Lipinksi starred in "The Tale of the Lunar Locusts."
Jay Baruchel (1995)
Nickelodeon
Jay's first ever credited appearance was in "The Tale of Dead Man's Float." He went on to appear in three additional episodes before joining Team Apatow and launching his career with Undeclared in 2001.
Emanuelle Chriqui (1996)
Nickelodeon
Before Entourage and Snow Day, Chriqui starred in one of the scariest episodes of the series, "The Tale of the Night Shift." Episodes like this are so chilling, it had audiences questioning how this possibly could have been a kids show. Chriqui plays Amanda, a night shift volunteer who notices all the employees are starting to act strange around her. Why is that? There's a crazy vampire loose in the hospital that's drinking everyone's blood!
Emily VanCamp (2000)
Nickelodeon
Before Everwood and Revenge, VanCamp made her first credited appearance in the TV Movie Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Tale of the Silver Sight.
Eddie Kaye Thomas (1994)
Nickelodeon
Five years before he was making passes at Stifler's mom in American Pie, he was playing little Matt Dorney in "The Tale of the Curious Camera." Matt is a bullied kid who discovers a camera that brings misfortune to anything or anyone it captures.
Rachel Blanchard (1990)
Nickelodeon
Perhaps best known as Cher in the TV adaptation of Clueless, she appeared as Kristen, a member of the Midnight Society, in 26 episodes of Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
Will Friedle (1994)
Nickelodeon
In the prime of teen heartthrob hair flips, Boy Meets World star Will Friedle appeared in the episode "The Tale of the Long Ago Locket." Our favorite good lookin' guy stars as a boy transported to the Revolutionary War.
