14 Stars Who Appeared on 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' Before They Were Famous

Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a popular Canadian television series that ran on Nickelodeon's SNICK from 1992 until 2000. Though this was helmed as a kids show, some of the episodes were just outright creepy. To nostalgic fans' delight, episodes recently became available on Amazon Instant.

Here is a look back at some of the notable stars-in-the-making who appeared throughout the series.

When Gosling was just 15 years old, starting out his acting career in his homeland of Canada, he made an appearance in the episode "The Tale of Station 109.1" as the brother of Jamie, a boy who discovers a radio station that takes its listeners to the afterlife.

Clarissa Explains it All was well into its fourth season when MJH appeared in "The Tale of the Frozen Ghost." She played a babysitter looking after a spoiled rich kid when they discover a ghost haunting his aunt's country house during the cold winter. Elisha started her stint on Are You Afraid of the Dark? as "Young Girl" in "The Tale of the Night Shift" with Entourage star Emanuelle Chriqui. A few years later, she became a regular member of The Midnight Society, appearing in 24 episodes and the TV movie.

Hayden Christensen has graced us with an array of pre-breakthrough roles before he was (spoiler) killing younglings in Star Wars. In the prime of her professional figure skating career, Lipinksi starred in "The Tale of the Lunar Locusts."

Jay's first ever credited appearance was in "The Tale of Dead Man's Float." He went on to appear in three additional episodes before joining Team Apatow and launching his career with Undeclared in 2001.

Before Entourage and Snow Day, Chriqui starred in one of the scariest episodes of the series, "The Tale of the Night Shift." Episodes like this are so chilling, it had audiences questioning how this possibly could have been a kids show. Chriqui plays Amanda, a night shift volunteer who notices all the employees are starting to act strange around her. Why is that? There's a crazy vampire loose in the hospital that's drinking everyone's blood!

Before Everwood and Revenge, VanCamp made her first credited appearance in the TV Movie Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Tale of the Silver Sight.

Five years before he was making passes at Stifler's mom in American Pie, he was playing little Matt Dorney in "The Tale of the Curious Camera." Matt is a bullied kid who discovers a camera that brings misfortune to anything or anyone it captures.
