'TMNT' Gets Awesome Street Art Treatment In New Poster Series

Michael Bay's upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has caused a lot of skepticism among long-time fans and TMNT obsessives. However, these newly-released – and honestly pretty awesome – posters may be an indication that this new Turtles project could be trying to venture into the gritty roots of the characters' origins.

While the titular Turtles might best be known for their fun cartoons and dated-but-endearing catchphrases, the comic that gave life to them was a dark, gritty, and violent tale meant for adults. And true TMNT fans have always loved how these radical reptiles worked so well, both when done dramatically and done with a sense of humor.

These cool new one-sheets, featuring all four of the Turtles and their mortal enemy Shredder, are made to look like Bansky-esque street art, giving them an edgier look that could indicate it's going to be an darker film.

TMNT hits theaters August 8, 2014. In the meantime, click through the gallery to check out all the rad new posters…

'TMNT' Gets Gritty

Leonardo

The leader of the group, Leo is a brilliant tactician and a skilled swordsman. He carries a pair of twin samurai swords and the only thing he's better at than fighting crime is banding his brothers together into a powerful and dangerous team.

Donatello

The scientist and inventor of the group, Donatello is more comfortable coming up with new contraptions than duking it out in the streets. But when push comes to shove, he can use his bow-staff to beat up bad guys just as effectively as any of his brothers.

Michelangelo

Mikey is the fun-loving comic relief, but like Toshiro Mifune in Seven Samurai, just because he likes joking around doesn't mean he isn't absolutely killer with his nunchucks.

Raphael

Raph is the bad boy of the group. If TMNT were a boy band, he'd be the one caught smoking or sleeping with a groupie. Or, more accurately, flying off the handle at a moment's provocation and beating up a whole army of villains. He's rash, quick-to-fight and a bit of a loose-cannon, but he's intensely loyal to his brothers and is the first man to jump into a fight to defend his friends and his family.

Shredder

The Turtles' greatest nemesis is Shredder, named for his suit which is apparently sewn completely out of knives. It's just got so many knives. I might even say it has too many knives. How would you even use those? Either way, the film is really kicking up the threat level significantly with this depiction of Shredder, who looks even scarier as street art.
