Hate her or love her, Christina Aguilera remains one of the most controversial -- and biggest -- music superstars since she rose to fame with her now legendary single Genie in a Bottle at just 18 years old. Now, in honor of her 32nd birthday, let's take a look back at the iconic singer's most memorable looks!

Christina was already showing her sexy side promoting her debut album at The Wherehouse (remember those record stores?!), showing off her toned stomach in a white crop top and jeans in 1999.

Christina's leopard on leopard look at the 1999 MTV Music Video Awards remains one of her most memorable ensembles.

By 2000, Christina was definitely not shy about showing nearly all of her petite frame, shocking her fans in this barely there outfit at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Clearly, Christina isn't afraid of the haters. Christina rocked a giant blonde afro -- which she was constantly ridiculed for, most memorably in the Lady Marmalade music video -- and a tattered velvet dress at the 7th Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards in 2001.

Christina ushered in her more provocative Stripped era -- her first album under her creative control -- by wearing increasingly edgier outfits. Case in point?  Here she is sporting her famously long, dirty blonde and black streaked 'do and another shockingly revealing outfit on stage at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.

Christina graduated to a more glamorous look at the 2004 Grammy Awards, dramatically dying her hair all black and sporting a flapper-style dress.

Christina went full on retro as 2004 went on, sporting this obviously Marilyn Monroe-inspired outfit at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards.

Christina's high-waist sailor outfits, which she memorably sported in her Candyman music video, is a look that will forever be associated with her popular Back to Basics album in 2006.

By 2010, Christina was less retro and into her blonde bombshell phase, rocking bright red lips and platinum blonde hair at a LACMA gala.

In 2011, Christina shocked fans when her skintight leotard performing at the Michael Forever Concert made it painfully obvious that the singer had put on some weight.

But never one to let people's talk get her down, Christina continued to rock curve-hugging outfits well into 2012. Here she is showing off her extreme two-toned hair at the Samsung Galaxy Note II launch party in October.

Christina's latest appearance at this year's American Music Awards seems to indicate a more toned-down look to come. The singer ditched her extreme streaks and sported a sleek blonde bob and a purple gown on the red carpet.
