Tom Cruise faces a formidable sight in the first poster from next year's highly anticipated sci-fi thriller from the director of TRON: Legacy. Revealing a spectacular view of what's left of the Empire State Building, the Oblivion image is reminiscent of the classic, final twist of the original Planet of the Apes -- and I'm sure it's no coincidence that the film is from the producers of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Part WALL-E and part I Am Legend from the sounds of the plotline, Oblivion (in theaters April 19, 2013) finds Tom as one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth, part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war. Patrolling the skies, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft – and her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows.
