New on Blu-ray & DVD: August 7

The Twilight Saga hunk Robert Pattinson stars in this turn-of-the-century period drama based on Guy de Maupassant's classic novel. Pattinson plays a penniless soldier named Georges Duroy who returns to Paris after the war to seek his fortune and greater social status. Seducing the city's most influential and wealthy women, Georges relies on his wits to work his way up the social ladder. But will he have to sacrifice love for power? Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas also star.

A 3D/CGI-animated family film from the creators of Despicable Me, The Lorax brings the imaginative Dr. Seuss "save-the-environment" classic to life. Danny DeVito lends his vocal talents as the grumpy-yet-charming title character, who must fight to protect the wasteful destruction of his rapidly diminishing world. Zac Efron voices Ted, the idealistic youth who searches for the Lorax; Taylor Swift is Audrey, the girl of Ted's dreams; Betty White portrays Ted's wise Grammy Norma; and Ed Helms voices the enigmatic Once-ler.

The classic Dr. Seuss TV special comes to life on Blu-ray in an all-new deluxe edition containing two additional Seuss classics: Daisy-Head Mayzie and The Hoober-Bloob Highway. Dick and Sally have nothing to do on a rainy day – that is, until the charismatic Cat in the Hat shows up with sidekicks Thing One and Thing Two. Now, how much fun can they have -- and how much disarray can they dust up (much to the chagrin of their worried pet goldfish) -- before mom comes back from her shopping errand?

Director Stanley Kubrick's intense, highly quotable masterpiece of war celebrates 25 years with a brand-new 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Book. Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D’Onofrio, Dorian Harewood and Arliss Howard play soldiers who endure boot-camp hell under the punishing command of Gny. Sgt. Hartman (R. Lee Ermey) before they find themselves in the mouth of madness in Vietnam.

Grimm's fairy tales come to life like never before in this dark and imaginative supernatural series from the producers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. David Giuntoli is homicide detective Nick Burkhardt, who discovers he is descended from a long line of criminal profilers known as "Grimms" -- protectors who are charged with keeping the balance between humanity and the creatures of myth. But can Nick separate his old life from the ancient rivalries of the Grimm world?

This adrenalin-charged Cinemax series follows Sullivan Stapleton, a disgraced, former U.S. Special Forces operative (Damien Scott) who joins an elite British military unit led by Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester) to stop a resourceful terrorist group from enacting a major attack using weapons of mass destruction. The fast-paced show is set in such exotic locations as India, South Africa, England and Chechnya.

Can you believe Mel Brooks' out-of-this-world comedy premiered 25 years ago? Mel's spoof of the Star Wars trilogy, Alien, Star Trek and every other sci-fi cliché imaginable stars Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Joan Rivers, Dick Van Patten, the late John Candy and Mel himself as "Yogurt."

Two of John Cusack's best films spin onto Blu-ray for the first time: In High Fidelity, Cusack stars opposite Jack Black as the owner of a semi-failing record store whose life is about lists. When his longtime girlfriend walks out on him, his needle skips the love groove, and he is forced to examine his past romantic failures in his own unique way.


In Grosse Pointe Blank, Cusack plays a hit man who attends his high school reunion, only to find romance with Minnie Driver and danger lurking between every other totally '80s pop tune.
