After the ordeal of a particularly painful public oration, the death of his father King George V (Michael Gambon), and the scandalous abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII (Guy Pearce), the new king recruits unorthodox speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) to help him overcome his impediment and lead his country into World War II. Nominated for a total of 12 Oscars, the film was crowned Best Picture of the year.
