The filmmaker joins the NBC drama during its finale on May 16 -- and ET has your first look.
That’s right, the irreverent filmmaker and writer John Waters is making a cameo on the upcoming season five finale of The Blacklist -- and ET has your exclusive first look.
Appearing as himself opposite Raymond Reddington (James Spader), Waters and the master criminal show off their unique sense of style in -- where else?! -- a haberdashery.
If the cameo may come as a surprise to fans, The Blacklist creator and executive producer Jon Bokenkamp explains to ET why Waters is actually a perfect fit for the series. “He’s such a confident and unique personality -- both strange and disarmingly warm at the same time -- the exact kind of personality Reddington would absolutely adore.”
While Bokenkamp has long wanted Waters on the show, he says, that “for whatever reason it’s never come to fruition.” Until now.
“We wrote this cameo for John for our season finale and we were lucky enough that he said yes,” he says. “Trust me, he's every bit as fun and strange as you would hope. I think he fits right into the Blacklist family!”
While the Waters cameo offers a fun break from the action, the season five finale will see Liz (Megan Boone) and Reddington face off in a climactic race to find a blacklister in possession of the duffel bag of bones. Legendary British actor Julian Sands (The Killing Fields) guest stars at the titular blacklister Sutton Ross, a corporate spy who specializes in stealing valuable research and has hated Reddington since he was betrayed years prior.
The Blacklist season finale airs Wednesday, May 16 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
