Harmonizers around the world were heartbroken by the girl group announcing their break on Monday -- and Smith was no different.
Harmonizers around the world had their hearts broken on Monday, when Fifth Harmony announced that they would be taking a break as a group.
“After six years going hard, non-stop, we also realized that in order to stay authentic to ourselves and to you, we do need to take some time for now to go on hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors,” the group said in a social media statement. “We are all very excited and grateful to be able to take this time to learn and grow creatively and really find our footing as individuals.”
Perhaps no famous fan of the girl group was more heartbroken than Sam Smith. The 25-year-old crooner took to Twitter following the announcement to mourn the (temporary) breakup of one of his favorite acts.
“FIFTH HARMONY!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Smith tweeted, using a total of 54 exclamation points to express his dismay.
Smith’s love of the group is well-documented. The “Too Good at Goodbyes” singer raved about his love for Fifth Harmony during his “Carpool Karaoke” segment with James Corden last November.
"When I hear them, I feel free, I feel alive, I feel like the woman in me is on fire!" Smith gushed. "'Work From Home,' I listen to every time before I go out [onstage]. I think it's my wedding song. I want to walk down the aisle to it in heels. I would love it if I got Fifth Harmony to come out to my wedding."
It remains to be seen if the group will play Smith’s wedding, but they did surprise him during “Carpool Karaoke,” joining him for a backseat rendition of his favorite track, “Work From Home.”
"Oh, I'm dead! No! Oh my god!" Smith screamed as he first tried to hide in his seat and then excitedly gave out hugs. "I'm shaking. I'm actually shaking. Oh my god, this is my dream!"
