Why We’re Obsessed With Amy Sedaris on ‘Divorce’
On Divorce’s second season, Amy Sedaris makes a welcome guest-starring appearance as Cathy, Robert’s (Thomas Haden Church) overbearing sister, when the show leaves upstate New York for Ohio after Robert’s father falls ill. The show reunites longtime friends, Sedaris and Divorce star Sarah Jessica Parker, who first appeared onscreen together in Sex and the City. “She's like something that fell out of the sky. She's a very special person. I couldn't believe we made it happen,” Parker told ET about landing Sedaris, who recently returned to TV with At Home With Amy Sedaris. Church revealed that it was the most fun he had filming the second season. “It was a beautiful experience,” he said of watching Parker and Sedaris in scenes together. Sadly, Sedaris only appears in the one episode. But if Divorce comes back for season three, then we insist that Cathy returns too. “I do hope Amy comes back,” Church added.
Divorce airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Altered Carbon’
Altered Carbon is the latest Netflix show to catch fire on the internet, leaving viewers buzzing about its futuristic tale about people’s consciousnesses placed into different bodies -- or sleeves, as they’re referred to on the series. Based on the 2002 novel by Richard K. Morgan, the show is a mix of Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner, The Matrix and Philip K. Dick, whose stories were recently adapted into a Black Mirror-like anthology series, Electric Dreams, on Amazon -- though, it’s most interesting element is its play on identity since a consciousness can be placed into any body regardless of gender or race. The show stars Joel Kinnaman, who makes good on his breakout roles on AMC’s The Killing and House of Cards, and James Purefoy, who we couldn’t get enough of on season two of The Wine Show with Matthew Goode.
Altered Carbon is now streaming on Netflix.
Why We’re Obsessed With the Winter Olympics
The PyeongChang Winter Olympics are finally upon us. The 2018 Games takes all the winter action to South Korea, where the U.S. team hopes to score big in the international competition. Nathan Chen is expected to go for gold in Men’s Figure Skating, while figure skater Adam Rippon will make history as one of two openly gay men -- including Gus Kenworthy -- to represent the U.S. for the first time at the Winter Games. After winning her second World Cup, Lindsey Vonn is coming in hot at her first Games since taking gold in 2010. Meanwhile 17-year-old snowboarder Chloe Kim could become the youngest woman to win a gold medal. And, of course, Shaun White is back for his fourth Winter Olympics competition, hoping to add to his medal collection.
The Winter Olympics runs Feb. 9 through Feb. 25 on NBC.
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Flying High 2’
While the New England Patriots fell short during Sunday’s Super Bowl, fans can dig into wide receiver Julian Edelman’s second children’s book, Flying High 2. Co-written with Assaf Swissa, the book continues Jules the Squirrel’s journey, as he overcomes the odds, this time helping his team -- including Tom the Goat, Danny the Fox and Dont’a the Rhino -- defeat the Falcons. In a conversation with Dropbox, Edelman explained how the book offered a creative way to share a message of perseverance. “When someone’s chasing their dream and a person says, ‘you can’t do it,’ sometimes those people quit,” he said. “It’s not just in athletics -- it’s in anything. So that was huge, being able to use our platform to spread the message of that underdog story and staying relentless.”
