Dwayne Johnson is clarifying his highly publicized feud with his Fast & Furious co-star, Vin Diesel.
The 45-year-old superstar covers the latest issue of Rolling Stone, and gets candid about what led to the falling out between him and Diesel. Rumors of bad blood between the two first sparked in August 2016, when Johnson posted a lengthy post on Instagram calling out certain male castmates for being "chicken sh*t" and "candy a**es," and not conducting themselves "as stand-up men and true professionals."
Viewers later pointed out that Johnson and Diesel's scenes together in the Fate and the Furious could have been shot without the two being on set together, and Johnson confirms the beef.
"That is correct," Johnson tells Rolling Stone. "We were not in any scenes together."
Johnson also says their feud stemmed from a disagreement about professionalism.
"Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer," he shares. "And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I'm grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not."
The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor remains coy on whether or not he'll be in the next installment of the franchise, Fast and Furious 9, which isn't set to hit theaters until April 2020. He is, however, starring in a spinoff of the franchise -- Hobbs and Shaw, co-starring Jason Statham, out next year-- which also caused drama between him and fellow Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson.
"I'm not quite sure," Johnson says of returning for Fast and Furious 9. "Right now I'm concentrating on making the spinoff as good as it can be."
But he did manage to get in one last dig at 50-year-old Diesel.
"But I wish him all the best, and I harbor no ill will there, just because of the clarity we have," he notes. "Actually, you can erase that last part about 'no ill will.' We'll just keep it with the clarity."
ET spoke to both Johnson and Diesel last April, when Diesel downplayed their beef.
"In my house, he's 'Uncle Dwayne,' and I'm proud of that," he said. "We still love each other, that's my boy. When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, 'Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it's the best movie in history.' And he delivered."
