Drew Barrymore Recalls When She Thought She Might Get Murdered on a First Date: 'I Was Really Afraid'

The 'Drew Barrymore Show' host recalled a scary first date.

Drew Barrymore had a first date experience that nightmares are made of!

On Wednesday's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the 49-year-old host chatted with co-host Ross Mathews about a scary first date.

"He was someone I thought I knew or I knew a lot of people who knew him, so it felt safe and he was really cute and I was like, 'OK,'" she said.  "And he was like, 'Come to my apartment.' Which I, again, if I didn't know people who know him, I would have never done, ever."

"So I go to his apartment and he's in the middle of a remodel, we both love home design, that's my passion. I find out it's his and I'm walking through his house and we go down to the basement," she recalled.

Mathews couldn't help but interject in shock at Barrymore's decision to go into the basement of a stranger's home.

"You are in Scream...don't you know how horror movies go?" Mathews said.

Barrymore continued her story, sharing that they walked down into the laundry room and that's when she saw something very alarming.

"I'm in the basement and there's a giant, I can't even explain how large size roll of clear plastic, whatever it is," she said. "And I am in this room, and I look down and I just went, 'I need to go back upstairs.' And I walked up the stairs and I turned to him and said, 'You know, I know we don't really know each other but I was afraid that you were going to murder me.'"

Fortunately, her date took the comment all in stride. In fact, she said the experience was something they bonded over.

"It totally bonded us," she said. "And we knew each other for a couple years and would see each other here and there and made more friends and, like, dating but we always joked about it, the night I thought he was going to murder me."

Barrymore, who has been single since her divorce from Will Kopelman in 2016, has been candid about her experience dating. Last month, the host opened up about a night she spent with New Kids on the Block's Jordan Knight, back in the late eighties, that didn't end the way she wanted it to.

And the Never Been Kissed star dished to ET about feeling "stupid" after she was catfished by someone on a dating app. But the feelings quickly turned around after Austin Butler promised to help her get out of her next dating blunder with a phone call.

"No, but how nice is that that Austin Butler would offer that to me," she said about Butler's offer. "I go on a date like once a year just to keep myself in the game."
