He also performed at the 2004 Super Bowl with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson.
Diddy is willing to forgive and forget! The 48-year-old artist, producer and TV personality appeared on Thursday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he opened up about his reaction to Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl halftime show and his complicated past with JT and the big game.
“First of all, you know, I was mad at Justin,” he told the audience. “You know when I performed on the Super Bowl? When Justin performed on the Super Bowl and had the Janet Jackson thing. I actually performed before him on that Super Bowl and nobody remembers.”
Diddy is referring to the now-infamous moment that Timberlake was involved in when Janet Jackson had a wardrobe malfunction. The incident made so many headlines that people forgot that Diddy also performed.
“I forgave him when I saw him perform at the Super Bowl this year,” Diddy said of Timberlake. “And I’m so proud of him. I remember when he got the call to do the Super Bowl how excited he was. He put a lot of work into it. He really, really showed us how to put on a show. It was incredible.”
These days Diddy is more interested in working behind the scenes. He is currently bidding to be an owner of the Carolina Panthers.
“I’m one of the people that are bidding and looking at it. I feel it’s time for some minority ownership in the NFL,” he said. “Like 70 percent of the athletes are African American. I think it’s important for them to see someone who looks like them in an ownership position. I think it would be good for the NFL and people as a whole.”
Prior to this year’s game where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots, Diddy opened up to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live about the JT/Janet Jackson moment, saying, “It’s time to move on, and I think she’s in a great place. The world just needs to get over it.”
