Derek Hough Reveals His Wife Hayley Erbert's Latest Surgery Was 'Completed Successfully'

Hayley suffered a brain bleed on Dec. 6.

Derek Hough's wife, Hayley Erbert, is on the road to recovery following a successful surgery.

On Thursday, the Dancing With the Stars judge shared an update on his wife, after she underwent a surgery to replace a portion of her skull following the cranial hematoma she suffered earlier this month

"With immense relief, gratitude and overwhelming joy I’d like to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery has been successfully completed as planned," he wrote.

"My sincere appreciation goes to the exceptional medical team. Their expertise and steady hands were pivotal in this journey, ensuring a smooth and successful surgery. Especially Dr. Mai who not only performed the surgery but was also the one who saved her life 2 weeks ago," Hough wrote next to a photo of him sitting in a chair next to his wife's hospital bed. "We are profoundly touched by the outpouring of support and prayers from each of you. Your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy have been a source of strength and comfort for us during this challenging time. It’s truly heartwarming to know how much love and care surrounds us."

He continued, "This surgery marks a significant milestone in my wife’s recovery journey, and your support has played a crucial role in getting us here. We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for standing with us. We love you With heartfelt thanks
and endless gratitude."

On Dec. 6, Hough took to Instagram to share that Erbert was rushed to the hospital following their performance in Washington, D.C., after she became "disoriented." The dancing pro revealed that Erbert suffered a cranial hematoma.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a cranial hematoma is "a collection of blood within the skull. It's usually caused by a blood vessel that bursts in the brain. It may also be caused by trauma such as a car accident or fall. The blood may collect in the brain tissue or underneath the skull, pressing on the brain. Some head injuries, such as one that causes only a short period of unconsciousness, can be minor. However, an intracranial hematoma is potentially life-threatening. It usually requires immediate treatment. This might include surgery to remove the blood."

The following week, Hough shared a video of him walking arm-in-arm with Erbert at the National Mall and shared the news of her follow-up surgery.

"Hayley is doing well," the World of Dance star wrote in part. "Her recovery process has been nothing short of a miracle. She still has a ways to go with another surgery, hopefully in a few weeks, to insert a skull implant to replace the piece that was removed during the craniectomy. It will restore the skull to its natural shape and protect the brain from injury."

Fans of the pair -- who were in the middle of their A Symphony of Dance Tour -- have flooded the their comments with prayers. Derek's sister, Julianne Hough, also took to social media to ask for prayers amid Erbert's health diagnosis.

"Please pray and send all your love, healing and light to Hayley and Derek," she wrote, adding the prayer hands emoji. "Thank you from the depths of our families hearts!"
