David Foster is getting backlash for a resurfaced video in which he called Katharine McPhee 'fat.'

David Foster is catching some heat for a past comment about Katharine McPhee. In a recently resurfaced video from the 2023 David Foster and Friends concert, the couple recounted how they met.

"You may not know that we met 17, almost 18 years ago, when I was a little chubby and cheerful contestant on American Idol," McPhee told the crowd of her 2005 run on the singing competition series, during which she finished as the runner-up to Taylor Hicks.

"Oh yeah," Foster, 74, chimed in. "You were fat."

"I was a little chubby, OK?" McPhee, 40, answered, with her husband responding, "True."

The duo went on to recall their early professional relationship and friendship as photos from that time period flashed on the screen behind them. When one pic from 2006 popped up, McPhee said, "David's had a few too many potato chips himself."

Foster went on to attend -- and play piano at -- McPhee's 2008 wedding to Nick Cokas, whom she divorced in 2016. Then, McPhee scored an invite to his 2011 wedding to Yolanda Hadid, which she was unable to attend.

Of the marriage, which came to an end in 2017, McPhee quipped, "I was invited to one of your weddings."

"That's a low blow," the five-times married Foster responded.

In comments on the resurfaced video, social media users noted it was a "really tough watch," with one calling the clip "brutal" and another saying it was "ridiculous."

"Fat??? Wow. And we wonder why society is so screwed up," one comment read, with another social media user writing, "Omg wow can't believe he said that out loud!"

The duo eventually wound up at their own wedding in 2019. They welcomed their son, Rennie, two years later. In the years since, the proud parents have shown off Rennie's drumming abilities on social media.

"He's probably going to be a lawyer or something, not a drummer," Foster told ET in April. "But we love it and we're having fun with it. Everybody’s child is special, so our child is special to us and he seems to have this talent. So we're just going to go along for the ride without pushing him too hard."
