The Netflix series became the subject of intense criticism after it was revealed that she made less than her co-star.

Claire Foy has reportedly been cut a hefty check to make up for the pay disparity between herself and Matt Smith for their work on The Crown.

The news broke in March that Smith, who portrays Prince Philip, was paid more for his role on the Netflix series than Foy, who portrays the titular Queen Elizabeth II, sparking controversy about gender gaps in Hollywood pay. On Sunday, The Daily Mail reported that Netflix cut the 34-year-old actress a check for £200,000 in back pay, which translates to about $275,000.

ET has reached out to Netflix for comment.

The wage gap sparked anger and protests from fans and others in Hollywood and added fuel to the Time's Up social movement against discrimination, harassment and unequal treatment of women in the workplace. Foy was a relative unknown when she was cast as Elizabeth, while Smith was well known for his role as the star of Dr. Who -- a fact that producers cited for the gap in pay.

Foy herself addressed the controversy, calling it "very odd."

But the producers quickly apologized for the disparity, vowing that going forward, "no one gets paid more than the queen." Smith, her co-star, also lent his support, saying in late April that critics were correct. He also hinted that producers had "made amends," without elaborating.

"Claire is one of my best friends, and I believe that we should be paid equally and fairly and there should be equality for all," he said at the time. "I support her completely, and I'm pleased that it was resolved and they made amends for it, because that what's needed to happen. Going forward, I think we should all bear in mind that we need to strive to make this better and a more even playing field for everyone involved — but not just in our industry, in all industries."
