It was the 'Thor' star's first-ever time at the Met Gala.
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are a perfect pair!
The couple stepped out to attend the Met Gala in New York City on Monday, and were dressed perfectly for the theme, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."
The theme works alongside the night's dress code, "The Garden of Time," which the Met Gala announced in February. According to the museum, the dress code is inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same title.
According to Vogue, "the most obvious interpretation would be to embrace the 'garden' part of 'The Garden of Time.' Think melancholic florals (as moody florals aren’t moody enough)."
Hemsworth looked dapper in a white three-piece suit by Tom Ford, as he stood alongside his wife, who sported a sheer nude gown paired with a custom gold Jennifer Behr flower crown.
As he prepares to co-chair this year's highly anticipated Met Gala, Hemsworth tells ET's Rachel Smith he's feeling the weight of the occasion, but with his trademark Aussie charm, he's taking it all in stride.
Hemsworth opens up about being a co-chair of this year's Met Gala, saying, "No pressure at all, yeah, no pressure," he quips, flashing his signature grin.
Known for his roles in blockbuster movies where he's often seen baring it all, Hemsworth is no stranger to intimidating situations. However, when asked what's more nerve-wracking — the biggest night in fashion or stripping down for a film — the actor doesn't hesitate to respond. "Baring it all. It's all pretty intimidating, this is fun though, this is fun," he admits. "As you say, this is the first time we've ever been to the Met Gala."
For Hemsworth, being appointed as a co-chair is both an honor and an exciting challenge. "And so, to be chair is quite an honor and it's fun," he shares. "It just sounds like a really fun night. Everyone I've spoken to says it's a great night, so we're excited."
While Hemsworth is accustomed to donning elaborate costumes and armor on screen, his fashion choices off-screen have also garnered attention. When asked about what his kids think of his fashion statements, the actor playfully deflects, suggesting their opinions might be better directed towards his wife, Elsa. "You'll have to ask them, no idea," he chuckles. "They'd probably be, you know, they'll be impressed with Mom's outfit, you know, we'll see what they think of Dad's."
Though the Thor star is a co-chair of this year's event, the 2024 happening is Hemsworth's first time walking up the iconic steps.
He's co-chairing the event along with Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny and Anna Wintour, the latter of whom has co-chaired the event since 1995 when Vogue's partnership with the Met Gala began.
Max Hollein, CEO of The Met, said in a statement that the "innovative" exhibition -- and the accompanying star-studded annual fundraising gala -- will "push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience the multisensory facets of a garment."
According to the announcement, the exhibition will include garments that span over 400 years, and will be "visually united by iconography related to nature, which will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion."
