The grown-up version of Chad Michael Murray's 'Freaky Friday' character, Jake, looks cooler than ever.
It's official -- Chad Michael Murray is returning as Jake in the Freaky Friday sequel!
News that Murray, 42, was on the set of the Freaky Friday sequel to reprise his role as Jake was announced on Thursday via a joint Instagram post with Disney, Disney Studios and Murray. "Jake is back, baby. The sequel to Freaky Friday is coming to theaters 2025," the post was captioned.
Although Freaky Friday came out more than a decade ago, Murray looks as good and as cool as ever. In the photo shared, Murray grins while sitting on a motorcycle in a black T-shirt and jeans.
Jake was the too-cool-for-high-school crush of Lindsay Lohan's character, Anna Coleman, in the 2003 body-swapping comedy. When a supernatural spell forces her spirit to switch with the body of her mother, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), Jake is suddenly enamored with the rule-breaking mom. But Anna is back in her own body by the time they share their first kiss.
Curtis is excited to work with Murray again. She reposted the photo of grown-up Jake to her Instagram Story, writing, "Oh Jake…. @chadmichaelmurray we have MISSED YOU!" Lola Violet's "Take Me Away (Freaky Friday)" played in the background.
Murray reposted the Instagram Story to his own, adding, "Don't tease me Tess 😉."
In late June, Lohan, 38, and Curtis, 65, shared a shot from the set of the Freaky Friday sequel, giving fans a first look at the long-awaited follow-up film. In the behind-the-scenes pic, Curtis and Lohan hold hands as they sit on the steps of their trailers, preparing to once again embody their mother-daughter duo.
"The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025! The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!" read the caption.
Lohan officially confirmed the exciting news in March.
Soon after, while speaking to ET, the actress opened up about where she would like to find her character in the new installment.
"An appropriate one for the movie," Lohan said. "We want to give the most to all our fans and the people that love the film, and just want to deliver a great performance."
As for Murray, he manifested a return in May. After reuniting with Freaky Friday's director Mark Waters for Mother of the Bride, the actor said he hoped to be called up from the bench to take on the role of Jake once again.
"How great would that be? To bring Jake back? It's one of those things where [it was] such a big part of my life," Murray shared to ET. "I mean, that was one of the main reasons for doing Mother of the Bride is when Mark called, and I got to talk to Mark, and I said, 'Mark, we're gonna get the band back together. Let's go.'"
He added, "I was so excited to see that man, and to bond with him again here 20 years later. So yeah, if they call, if Jake is invited back, Jake will be there."
