This is the third time the 'Up' rapper has filed for divorce against Offset. The couple shares two children.
Cardi B is making her split from Offset official. The "Bongos" rapper filed for divorce on Wednesday, her rep confirms to ET. This is the third time the couple has taken their breakup to the courts.
The pair privately tied the knot in 2017 after a whirlwind romance and share two children: daughter Kulture, 6, and son Wave, 2. The former Migos member is also father to Jordan, 13, and Kalea and Kody, both 8, from previous relationships.
According to Page Six, which was first to report the news, Cardi is seeking primary custody of Kulture and Wave.
ET has learned that Cardi's filing is not based on any one particular incident and the split is amicable.
The 31-year-old confirmed speculation that the pair had broken up on Dec. 11, taking to Instagram Live and revealing to fans that she has been "single for a while" but was unsure how to share the news with her fans.
The news came after fans noticed that Cardi B and Offset had unfollowed each other on Instagram, accompanied by cryptic messages on Cardi's Instagram Story about outgrowing relationships and putting herself first.
During the live session, Cardi said, "I don't know if y'all have been getting clues from me from my Live, I mean... or from my Instagram Stories, where I put certain music. When it comes to events and stuff, I don't think it's true, I don't care to find out because I have been single for a minute now."
The GRAMMY winner acknowledged her struggle in breaking the news, saying, "I have been afraid to... not afraid, but I just don't know how to tell the world. I feel like today has been like a sign. The last time I got on Live, I kind of wanted to tell you, but I didn't know how to tell you, so I changed my mind."
Cardi emphasized that she was ready for a fresh start in 2024, expressing excitement for a new life and a new beginning.
Despite their ups and downs -- which saw Cardi filing for divorce twice before calling it off -- the rappers have always maintained a strong respect for one another.
In a May profile piece with Variety, Offset had nothing but praise for Cardi, and said their relationship was "icon status."
"She always got my back, right or wrong. We both are on the same mission to make each other better. Social is her strong point, so I listen to her social advice. And me, it's the music, but I play behind the scenes; it's my wife so I want to make sure she win," he said about his spouse, whom he referred to as "my bestie."
"We are a great team," he added. "We're a powerhouse at this point."
Cardi also spoke with Variety for the profile, and shared, "What I appreciate about my husband is that no matter what issue I am having personally or professionally, I know he will take care of me and our family. It's handled. I know that I have a man who has my back for real. I fully support him in this next chapter of his music career."
Allegations of cheating have plagued the couple since they began seeing one another, and it follows their latest split.
Rapper Blueface made recent claims on X (formerly Twitter) that Offset had been intimate with Chrisean Rock. Offset vehemently denied the allegations, responding to Blueface's accusations with a tweet that read, "I ain't never talk or touch that lady. Real Talk man you need some help!"
The drama unfolded further on social media, with Blueface insisting that Chrisean slept with Offset and providing details of the alleged encounter, including the date and time.
During a Call Her Daddy appearance in October, Offset claimed he'd learned his lesson about how to resolve their issues privately.
"I feel like people dive into negativity," Offset said when discussing the public's response to his past infidelity -- namely, how fans continue bringing it up online. "Also, I feel like there be a hate train of people that don't like my wife and she does everything else to the T, so that's the only thing you can attack. It's like, we're all humans but I hate that s**t."
He continued, "At the end of the day it does affect home and we get past s**t, move past s**t and grow up. I was married very young; I was 26 years old, getting married as a mega superstar... fastest life ever. I made mistakes."
Offset admitted that it took work for the couple to reestablish their trust in one another. Sharing that he had to work on being selfish and respecting his wife's position, Offset said that the pair both worked on "being more communicative about s**t."
"Communication is key, not communicating f**ks s**t up," he noted. "It takes work! What you did was selfish so it's their turn to be selfish and you need to comfort them. Luckily, I have a very loyal one, so I don't want to lose her for nothing. I love her to death. My kids, my son, my daughters -- I don't ever want to take myself away from them [because of] my dumbass decisions."
