Cardi B Fails to Win History-Making First GRAMMY for 'Bodak Yellow'

Kendrick Lamar upset the 25-year-old rapper in both categories. She would have been the first female rapper to win in either one.

Sadly, Cardi B will not have any GRAMMYs to go with her red bottoms this year.

Despite "Bodak Yellow" launching the 25-year-old rapper into superstardom in 2017, she lost to Kendrick Lamar on Sunday at the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards -- for his song, "Humble" -- in both the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song categories.

Had she won, it would have marked a first for the breakout artist, who has set many records in the past year. It also would have been the first time a female rapper has won in either category. Missy Elliot won Best Female Rap Performance in 2003 and 2004, during a short stint when the categories were separated by gender. (Elliot also won Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002, when there was a distinction between "Solo" and "Group/Duo" performances).

"Bodak Yellow" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first female rapper to land the spot since Lauryn Hill in 1998.

Both categories were announced during the pre-show. During the show, Cardi B is set to take the stage with fellow nominee Bruno Mars, for a performance of their song, “Finesse.”

ET talked to Cardi on Saturday, who admitted she was excitedly nervous for the show.

“I am pretty nervous. I'm confident that I'm pretty nervous,” she said, adding that Mars is “a very strict” performer. “We rehearse, rehearse, rehearse [and] practice, practice, practice. But I’m confident, but I’m still nervous.”

Ahead of the show, Cardi B opened up earlier in the week at the Warner Music Group Pre-Grammy Celebration in Association with V Magazine in New York City about the GRAMMYs.

“What I am most excited to see on the GRAMMYs Sunday is just , like, me hopefully winning an award,” the “Bartier Cardi” emcee said. “Like, what else?”
