'We remain committed to building a strong future, whether together or apart,' the two said in a joint statement posted on Instagram.
A breakup has hit Broadway couple Andy Karl and Orfeh.
Karl, 49, took to social media on Tuesday to announce the news of his split with Orfeh, 53, after 23 years of marriage.
"After 23 years of a wonderful loving relationship, both onstage and off, we have made the decision to separate," the pair said in a joint statement posted on Karl's Instagram.
Long distance appeared to be a factor in the theater veterans' separation. The pair is typically based in New York City, but Karl has been living outside of the United States over the past year for his lead role as Phil Connors in Groundhog Day: The Musical. The revival premiered at the Old Vic in London, where it ran from May 2023 to August 2023. It transferred to the Princess Theatre in Melbourne, Australia, in January until April 20.
"Keeping a marriage strong can be challenging, especially when working on opposite sides of the world, but we remain committed to building a strong future, whether together or apart," the announcement continued alongside a photo of the former couple. "We ask for respect and privacy at this time. With love, Andy Karl and Orfeh."
Orfeh has not yet posted about the split on her Instagram.
Karl and Orfeh are best known for their roles together in the Broadway musicals Saturday Night Fever, Legally Blonde and Pretty Woman. The two met in 2000 during Saturday Night Fever. They tied the knot six months later, eloping in South Beach in January 2001.
In late December, they made one of their last public appearances together outside the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York.
