Britney Spears Misses Autonomy and 'Hopes to Be Released Soon,' Source Says

The 37-year-old pop star 'hates feeling under a microscope,' ET's source says.

Britney Spears is hoping to be home soon.

A source tells ET that the 37-year-old pop star -- who checked into a facility earlier this month to focus on her well-being amid the stress of her father's health crisis -- is missing her autonomy and is hoping to be released in the near future.

"Britney knows she needs help but has made it clear she wants to go home. She feels far better than she did when she arrived and hates feeling under a microscope," the source says.

"While she is finally on the right path to getting healthy again, Britney does miss her autonomy. She is under constant care both in and out of the facility," the source adds. "At this point, she is doing everything she can to return home and hopes to be released soon."

Spears' kids with Kevin Federline, 13-year-old Sean Preston and 12-year-old Jayden James, are staying with their father as the singer remains in treatment, ET has learned.

"Kevin has never interfered with the ability of the children to have ongoing and meaningful contact with Britney when they are in his custody," Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, who has no knowledge of whether the kids are visiting Spears while she's in treatment, tells ET.

Spears broke her silence about her time in the facility on Tuesday, as fans have started the hashtag #FreeBritney following allegations that she was being held against her will. She promised to be back "very soon" in a video posted to Instagram, and in the caption, she reminded fans not to "believe everything you read and hear."

"I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There's rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said," she wrote. "I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear."

"My situation is unique, but I promise I'm doing what’s best at this moment ???," continued Spears, who has been spotted on outings from her facility a couple of times in the last few weeks. "You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you ❤️❤️❤️."
