Britney Spears and Dad Jamie Settle Financial Dispute in Conservatorship Case

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but a source tells ET that Britney is ready to move on.

Britney Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, have settled their years-long financial dispute in her conservatorship case.

Although the terms of the settlement were not disclosed, Jamie wanted his legal fees paid for by Britney's estate. Jamie made his request to the court in 2021, stating "prompt payment on account of Jamie's attorneys' fees is necessary to ensure the Conservatorship can be wound up quickly and efficiently to allow Britney to take control of her life as she and Jamie desire."  According to the New York Times, his fees totaled more than $2 million.

A source tells ET that Britney is ready to put this "all behind her, fully. And good riddance to it."

Britney's lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, said in a statement that the 42-year-old pop star's "wish for freedom is now truly complete."

"As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter," the statement reads in part. "Britney Spears won when the court suspended her father, and Britney Spears won when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were restored."

Jamie's lawyer, Alex Weingarten, also issued a statement to ET.

"Jamie is thrilled that this is all over," it reads in part. "He would have liked to have had a trial so that the truth came out and the world saw the evidence of what really happened, not irresponsible and false spin. Jamie loves his daughter very much and worked tirelessly to protect her.  He wants the best for Britney, nothing less."

TMZ was first to report the news of the settlement.

Britney made headlines in 2021 when she gave an explosive testimony at a hearing, sharing that she would like nothing more than "to end the conservatorship without being evaluated," as well as regain control of her life. She also shared a slew of shocking allegations against both her father and her team.

Britney's conservatorship was terminated in November 2021 after 13 years, and Jamie was suspended from his role as conservator.
