The actors give ET an inside look at how they brought the hit true-crime podcast to life on screen.
Art imitates life… and sometimes, art imitates a podcast that’s about real life.
That’s the case for Bravo, which is bringing the Los Angeles Times’ mega-hit podcast Dirty John to the small screen this November. ET has your exclusive first look behind the scenes -- including some chilling, never-before-seen footage from the sure-to-be hit series.
“The podcast was such an extraordinary story,” star Connie Britton shares in the sneak peek. “What excited me about playing this role is how easy it is to be conned by someone and how destructive that can be.”
Britton plays Debra Newell, the Southern California businesswoman who fell victim to alleged con artist John Meehan, played by Eric Bana. After a series of true crime-worthy twists and turns, the real-life couple’s relationship came to a shocking end when -- spoiler alert -- one of Newell’s daughters killed Meehan.
“The exciting thing for us is, going beyond the podcast, even though our story arc is very, very similar in terms of the structure,” Bana says. “It’s the first American TV show for me. The biggest challenge in playing John is giving him enough warmth, humor and humanity in the first part of the series, but then transitioning to the very dangerous place.”
“John’s not overtly present in the podcast,” he adds. “So, that’s the biggest unique opportunity for us in the series is that, even though some people will know a lot about the story, they’re seeing John for the first time.”

“This show’s actually going to be really provocative for women and men,” Britton promises.
“We very much see it through Debra’s eyes,” director/executive producer Jeffrey Reiner explains. “We see how charming he is. We see them dancing and eating together, and making love together.”
Dirty John premieres Sunday, Nov. 25, at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo.
