Blake Lively Apologizes for Poking Fun at Kate Middleton's Photoshop Controversy After Royal's Cancer Reveal

The Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22.

Blake Lively is addressing her past joke. The same day that Kate Middleton announced that she's been diagnosed with cancer, the actress took to her Instagram Story to apologize for previously poking fun at the Princess of Wales' Photoshop controversy.

"I'm sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this," Blake wrote on Instagram. "I made a silly post around the 'photoshop fails' frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today. I'm sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always."

The situation started earlier this month when people were speculating about Kate's whereabouts given that she hadn't been seen since her January abdominal surgery.

Amid her public absence, Kate released a photo of her with her and husband Prince William's children -- Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. Shortly thereafter, photo agencies pulled the pic for alleged manipulation

Kate admitted to as much shortly thereafter, explaining in a statement, "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused."

Afterwards, celebrities weighed in. For her part, Blake's post was an ad for her mocktail company. The pic, which has since been deleted, was purposefully poorly Photoshopped, which Blake subtly offered a nod to in the caption.

"I'm so excited to share this new photo I just took today to announce our 4 new @bettybuzz & @bettybooze products. Now you know why I've been MIA," the caption read.

Days after Blake posted her joke, Kate opened up about her diagnosis, prompting the actress' apology and her well wishes for the princess. World leaders, celebrities and royal family members were quick to wish Kate well too.

As for Kate's husband, a source told ET that, despite all the erroneous speculation in the press, William "has been at Kate's side," and that "his primary goal in all of this has been to support his wife and his children."
