The boy band was formed on April 20, 1993.

It's a special day for the members of the Backstreet Boys.

Saturday marked Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson and AJ McLean's 26th anniversary of being a boy band. The group celebrated the major milestone with a heartwarming throwback of the five singers in their early days, singing at a high school gym.

"On this day in 1993 we became the Backstreet Boys. From performing in high school gyms to heading out on a world tour this summer (plus a #1 album!!), never could the five of us have imagined what the past 26 years would hold," the heartfelt message read. "Thank you all ❤️ Here’s to many more years! #KTBSPA #BSB26."

BSB is one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, selling more than 130 million records worldwide, earning a total of seven GRAMMY nominations, and their latest album, DNA (their first in five years) also debut at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

The singers are currently closing out their Larger Than Life Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood this weekend. On Friday night, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler surprised fans and his girlfriend, Aimee Preston, by jumping onstage while the group was serenading her. Dorough and McLean later took to their Instagrams to give the rock legend a shout-out.

Before they embark on their DNA World Tour kicking off next month, ET caught up with the boy band at their GRAMMY Museum exhibition, Backstreet Boys: The Experience, in Los Angeles, where they reflected on their time together and the amazing memorabilia on display.

"We had to dig into some of our old warehouses and storage units to find some of these things that we didn't know existed anymore," Carter told ET earlier this month. "I mean we went all the way back to our Millennium tour, found the blue outfits that we wore...Just things that people hadn't seen before, or hadn’t seen in a long time. We put together a great collection of things that I think people will be able to remember and recall, and celebrate with us."
