The American Music Awards will take another year off, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced Tuesday. After not being held in 2023, the AMAs will also not hand out awards in 2024.
The next ceremony will instead take place in May 2025. This marks a significant shift for the AMAs, which will move to the spring for the first time in their history.
In place of the traditional awards ceremony, CBS will air a two-hour event, the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, simulcast on both coasts. This special event celebrates the AMAs' 50th anniversary and signifies the beginning of a new partnership between them and CBS, which has also taken over airing DCP’s Golden Globe Awards.
The American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special honors five decades of iconic moments, unforgettable performances, and rich pop culture history. The special promises new performances, artist interviews, special guests, and exclusive never-before-seen footage from the Dick Clark Productions archives.
According to CBS and Dick Clark Productions, the program will feature themed highlights from the AMAs’ expansive show archives, each culminating in an original performance or artist interview. Segments will look back on the evolution of specific artists and genres at the AMAs, as well as key award and performance milestones.
The performances, created exclusively for the anniversary special, will include collaborations, debuts from today’s hottest stars, and appearances from AMAs legends. Performers for the special will be announced in the coming weeks.
In addition to the CBS broadcast, the special will be available to stream live and on demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the next day.
