Alec Baldwin's 'Rust' trial is underway in New Mexico, where the actor's wife, Hilaria, and their youngest child were also seen.
Alec Baldwin's criminal trial is underway in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the 66-year-old actor was joined by his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their youngest child, 1-year-old daughter Ilaria.
Alec and Hilaria -- who have been married since 2012 and have seven kids together -- were seen arriving in separate SUVs on Tuesday morning outside the First Judicial District Courthouse as a gaggle of photographers captured the scene. Alec looked sharp in a grey suit, white dress shirt and navy blue tie, while 40-year-old Hilaria donned a brown jacket over matching slacks.
Surprisingly, Hilaria arrived with the couple's youngest child. At one point, video captured Alec asking Hilaria, "Can I help you?," as she unloaded the stroller out of the black SUV. Alec was also seen asking his daughter, "Want to come to daddy?," before Hilaria handed the youngest child to a caretaker.
"You have a celebrity, family man, an A-list celebrity that is also shooting a reality TV show, mind you, so the optics in front of the courthouse with a sea of media, and it's not a red carpet," noted Court TV Crime and Justice Correspondent Matt Johnson to ET's Cassie DiLaura.
Alec was then seen heading inside the courthouse for day 2 of his involuntary manslaughter trial in connection to the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his film in October 2021. On his way inside, a reporter asked, "How are you feeling this morning?" Alec looked at the reporter but said nothing.
"Number 1, he's trying to act like an everyday person and that he's taking this very seriously," Johnson said. "He's wearing glasses, he's wearing a suit and tie even for the pretrial hearings and then he also has no hair dye. H appears a little bit older, even though he's only 66."
Hilaria and Ilaria's appearance wasn't the only familial support the actor-producer received. His brother, Stephen Baldwin, was also seen in a hallway outside of the courtroom. He donned a navy blue suit, a button-down shirt and tie with his hair slicked back.
After a day of motions being sorted out, Tuesday's trial kicked off jury selection, albeit with a few technical difficulties that delayed the trial. In the end, 12 jurors and four alternatives were selected.
Alec was indicted with a charge of involuntary manslaughter by a grand jury in the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Hutchins. He pled not guilty. If convicted, Alec faces up to 18 months in prison.
According to court documents obtained by ET on June 18, special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Erlinda O. Johnson allege that the actor engaged in "horseplay" with a gun during training. They also allege that his nature during filming was "erratic and aggressive."
Furthermore, the prosecutors claim that Alec fired a blank round at a crew member while simultaneously using that person to establish a line of sight. They allege that the actor and producer insisted on not being held to industry safety standards when filming resumed months after the fatal shooting.
Alec sought to have the case dismissed, to no avail. His trial begins not long after the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after she was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Alec has repeatedly insisted he did not pull the trigger on the prop gun that killed Hutchins.
