The Hamptons, as you may know, is a posh area of Long Island that is a summer haven for the fabulous and affluent. From Martha Stewart to Beyoncé, Sarah Jessica Parker to Madonna, the seasonal residents read like an IMDB page for a blockbuster hit.
Sure, it is lovely, but mention Long Island in any other context and you may receive a more reserved reaction. As soon as you leave the metro area, the black garb of city dwellers is shed and, as if by portal rather than bridge or tunnel, transformed into a linen set or floral frock.
