The music icons also shared a special moment on stage and after the show on Sunday in London.
Janet Jackson truly rocked Rihanna's world Monday night at the 2019 British Fashion Awards when she presented the Urban Luxe award to the singer's fashion house, Fenty.
The moment was a surprising and emotional one for Rihanna, who was visibly shocked when she was named the recipient of the award. Video of the moment was shared to Twitter, and as Jackson built up to announcing Rihanna's name, it was clear she couldn't believe the moment was really happening.
"You’re loved for your style, your boldness and for your strength as a woman," Jackson said on stage. "You’re respected as a successful artist, fashion designer, activist, entrepreneur… congratulations to Rihanna for Fenty."
The singer, dressed in an angelic light teal ensemble, took to the stage alongside her collaborator, friend and stylist Jahleel Weaver, to accept the award, and embraced Jackson -- an artist Rihanna has listed as one of her inspirations in the past -- while accepting the trophy.
Backstage, after the sweet moment, the pair posed for pics and Jackson shared a message of love and support on Twitter.
"Congratulations ?#FashionAwards," Jackson captioned a playful black-and-white pic of the pair.
Later, the company expressed their appreciation for the award, sharing a snapshot of Rihanna from the red carpet.
"Thank you to the @BFC for this wonderful opportunity which means so much to me as a young black woman. This is a great achievement for our brand," the fashion line wrote. @rihanna and FENTY are honored to win the Urban Luxe category at the #BFA 2019."
