Though details of the deal were not disclosed, Deadline reports that Pompeo -- one of TV’s highest-paid actresses -- earns more than $300,000 per episode.
The news of Pompeo’s return comes less than two weeks after Sara Ramirez, who starred as Dr. Callie Torres for a decade, announced that she would not be returning, opting instead to take “some welcome time off.”
“I send my love to Ellen, the rest of the cast and crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!” Ramirez wrote on May 19.

Pompeo, 46, is just one of a handful of original cast members who have stayed on Grey’s throughout the entirety of its run, including Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. Several of Pompeo’s co-stars are in the midst of renegotiating their deals.
ABC declined to comment.
Grey’s Anatomy returns for season 13 on ABC this fall.
