ETonline has the exclusive details on the new songs from the upcoming TV movie!
It can’t be a Disney Channel movie without some singing involved! Thankfully, Descendants has all that and more!
A twist on the traditional fairy tale story (all done with a musical touch of course), Descendants tells the story of the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains. ETonline has your first look at the seven original tunes featured in the movie we guarantee you’ll be singing along to when the July 31 debut rolls around.
Kristen Chenoweth (Maleficent) leads the ensemble cast, which includes Dove Cameron (Mal), Cameron Boyce (Carlos), Mitchell Hope (Prince Ben), Booboo Stewart (Jay) and Sofia Carson (Evie).
Will one of these tracks be as catchy as High School Musical's "We're All in This Together" or its sequel's "Bet On It"? Here's hoping!
1. “Rotten to the Core” – Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce & Booboo Stewart
The up-tempo electronic dance song introduces the four main characters, Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay. In the movie, the young adolescents are seen blazing through the streets of Isle of the Lost, which looks exactly like the name implies.
2. “Evil Like Me” – Kristen Chenoweth & Dove Cameron
When you have a Broadway veteran like Chenoweth, you have to have a dramatic showstopper and that’s exactly what this song intends to be. Written by Tony-nominated Andrew Lippa, the song serves as a warning of sorts, as Mal is haunted by her destiny of inheriting her mother’s evil throne.
3. “Did I Mention” – Mitchell Hope
Grammy and Emmy winner Adam Schlesinger wrote this high-energy, percussion-filled dance number performed by Prince Ben after he wins a big tournament game.
4. “If Only” – Dove Cameron
Glee’s Adam Anders takes the writing reins on the ballad, performed by Mal at a critical time in her life. Does she choose the path of good or follow in her mother’s evil footsteps?
5. “Be Our Guest” – Chorus
Now this sounds like a promising number! Descendants tries a hip-hop a cappella to Alan Menken’s classic song from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, led by Prince Ben and his classmates. Think Glee!
6. “Set It Off” – Ensemble
As the finale in Descendants, one can only imagine the fireworks! The entire cast takes part in this movie-closing number, as well as the entire Auradon Prep student body.
7. “Believe” – Shawn Mendes
Mendes’ new single was original released on Monday, and it gets the special distinction of being the end-credits song. Written and performed by the 16-year-old singer, “Believe” falls in line with the theme of the movie – “the importance of believing in yourself.”
While these are the main songs featured in the movie, there are five bonus tracks on the official Descendants soundtrack: “Rotten to the Core” (Sofia Carson), “Night Is Young” (China Anne McClain), “Good Is the New Bad” (Dove Cameron, China Anne McClain & Sofia Carson), “I’m Your Girl” (Felicia Barton) and “Descendants Score Suite” (David Lawrence).
Speaking of fairy tales, watch the alternate opening to Disney's live-action film, Cinderella!
