Host Seth Meyers just kicked off The 66th Annual Primetime Emmys with a joke-packed monologue and while some zingers caused TV's best and brightest to burst into laughter, others fell a little flat. Truthfully, he seemed a little nervous—but can you blame him? It's the freakin' Emmys for goodness sake.
Not to worry! The Late Night host anticipated this Emmys ebb and flow and explained, "Jokes are like nominees, they can't all be winners." Touché, Seth.

The SNL alum swiftly began his monologue saying that since the Emmys are airing on a Monday this year, it can only mean one thing: "The Emmys are about to get canceled." And speaking of getting canceled, Seth made sure to take a moment to recognize the series that are ending this season.
"This is going to be the last season for shows like Glee, Two and a Half Men, Sons of Anarchy and almost every new show to premiere this fall," Meyers zinged. (Hey—it's totally true!)
After a few jabs at the obvious joke that MTV still hosts the VMAs despite the fact that the cable network has stopped airing music videos, Seth quickly turned the attention to the great nominees we have this year.
"This year we have comedies that made you laugh and comedies that made you cry because they were dramas submitted as comedies," he smirked. (Yes, we're looking at you, Orange is the New Black!)

Seth also took a moment to acknowledge the fact that out of all the networks, HBO snagged the most number of Emmy nominations this year. "Not to be outdone, NBC is also a network," Meyers said to a roar of laughter.
The NBC favorite also gave kudos to HBO's Game of Thrones for being the most illegally downloaded show, and Duck Dynasty for being the "most VCR-taped series."
However, we do wish that Seth had cut his speech a little short because his final round o' jokes, which featured a number of comparisons as to why TV is the "booty call" of the entertainment world, dead-panned pretty hard.
Overall we'd give Seth a solid "B" for his Emmys monologue, a grade that could have easily been raised if his friends Amy Poehler and Tina Fey had actually joined him on stage like he joked.
