The 24-year-old actor and actress Uma von Wittkamp were taken into custody after being pulled over in Nebraska.
Hopper Penn was arrested after allegedly being in possession of drugs.
According to a Nebraska State Patrol spokesperson, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, a patrolman pulled over Hopper and 26-year-old actress Uma Von Wittkamp in a 1992 Volvo for failure to signal. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities say they found 14 grams of marijuana, four amphetamine pills and three grams of psilocybin mushrooms.
Von Wittkamp was charged with possession of psilocybin and amphetamine pills, while Hopper was charged with possession of marijuana. In the state of Nebraska, possession of a controlled substance is a felony.
The two were taken to Hamilton County Jail in Aurora, Nebraska.
The 24-year-old actor -- who is the son of Sean Penn and Robin Wright -- has spoken out about his struggle with drug abuse in the past. In an interview with the U.K.'s Evening Standard last year, he said that he had battled with a meth addiction.
"I was doing a lot of stuff but meth was the main one that brought me down," Hopper said. "I went to rehab because I woke up in a hospital and my dad said, 'Rehab? Or bus bench?' I was like, 'I’ll take the bed.'"
ET has reached out to the reps of Hopper's parents, Sean and Robin.
