The 47-year-old comedian broke the news on Twitter, announcing that she and the actor had "consciously uncoupled."
Sarah Silverman took a line out of Gwyneth Paltrow's breakup statement to announce that she and Michael Sheen have ended things after three years of dating.
On Monday the 47-year-old comedian announced on Twitter that she and the 49-year-old actor had amicably decided to split because the distance had become too much for them. Silverman lives in the U.S., while Sheen resides in the U.K.
"The great @michaelsheen and I consciously uncoupled over Christmas. I mean, not 'over Christmas' - like that wasn’t the fight that ended it. No fight," she quipped. "We just live in different countries and it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, 'How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?'"
The couple's last public appearance was in October when Sheen showed up to the premiere of Silverman's Hulu show, I Love You, America, at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California.
Silverman also commented on her long-distance relationship with the Masters of Sex star while on Jimmy Kimmel Live this past June.
"He’s my on-again, off-again lover," she told Kimmel, whom she dated from 2002 to 2009. "I call him my on-again, off-again lover because we’re apart by oceans -- one ocean."
Silverman added, "So he’s there a lot, and then we just long for each other and we see each other and we love each other."
Sheen moved back to the U.K. from Los Angeles shortly after his and Kate Beckinsale's daughter, Lily, was accepted into college.
“His daughter turned 18, he wanted to go home,” Silverman told the late-night host. “He was here to be near his daughter, now she’s off, she’s going to start her own life. She’s going to [New York University].”
