Liane Moriarty reveals what season two could have in store for Nicole Kidman's Celeste and Zoe Kravitz's Bonnie.
Would a second season of Big Little Lies mean bigger little lies? Or littler big lies?
Either way, while a second season of HBO's hit limited (or not?) series is far from confirmed -- director Jean-Marc Vallee called it a "one-time deal," while Reese Witherspoon told fans to lobby author Liane Moriarty on Facebook for season two fodder -- this is confirmation that it is certainly a possibility.
"A lot of people have obediently done as Reese suggested," Moriarty tells The Sydney Morning Herald, revealing that she has begun thinking up ways to continue the story. "The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn't write a new book, but perhaps a new story and then we'll see what happens. I'm absolutely open to it...and there's definitely places you can go."

What would the future hold for the women of Monterey, California? There's obviously the detective's lingering suspicious teased in the final moments of the finale, but Moriarty says another season could also explore a plotline about Bonnie's (Zoe Kravitz) backstory, which was excised from season one. ("My original reaction was what have they done?" she says of the change. "How have they left that out?")
"The obvious thing is, first of all, I think we could bring in more of Bonnie's story from the book," she explains, as well as what comes next for Nicole Kidman's character, Celeste. "That's the question that's also a really interesting thing, when you've been through a relationship like that, how do you feel now? How would she feel? She's grieving. She's still grieving for the end of a terrible relationship and I think that would be a really interesting thing to explore. So, there's a whole lot of different storylines."
In her book, Moriarty reveals that Bonnie had an abusive father, which is what triggered her reaction to Perry's (Alexander Skarsgård) abuse -- how that would play out in further seasons, who knows. Celeste's storyline, on the other hand, Moriarty already has fleshed out.
Following Perry's death, Celeste and the twins moves into the new apartment we saw her rent in season one. She returns to her former career as a lawyer and ultimately becomes an advocate for other victims of domestic violence.
EXCLUSIVE: How Well Do Reese Witherspoon and the Rest of the 'Big Little Lies' Cast Know Each Other?
Whether or not season two comes to be, Moriarty is already in bed with the Big Little Lies team on an adaptation of her most recent novel, Truly Madly Guilty. When ET spoke with the author ahead of the HBO premiere, she revealed what makes the Witherspoon-Kidman team so efficient.
"It's Bruna [Papandrea, Witherspoon's producing partner] who said to me, 'Well, this is the way that it should happen,'" she explained of why Big Little Lies was the first of her novels to make it to the screen. "But my first novel, Three Wishes, was optioned years and years ago and What Alice Forgot is still in the works and The Husband's Secret is still in the works, so I've just experienced what so many other authors have -- that it takes a long time...Big Little Lies just beat them all!"
She now says the cast -- including Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern -- is "pretty keen" to work together again, and Kidman herself confirmed as much to ET when she said, "I would love to [do more] actually."
"I'm not used to being in people's living rooms on a Sunday night, which I love by the way,” she said. "I mean, the great thing about this is there were such fantastic roles for five women, but you know, people are watching it around the world, which is really fun. A couple of people in Australia are calling me [and have] been emailing me, texting me, going, 'What happens next? What happens next?'"
