The 38-year-old actress says 'we have a long way to go as women.'
Katie Holmes is still recovering from the results of 2016's presidential election.
During a radio interview on the SiriusXM TODAY Show Radio special "The Jenna Bush Hager Show," the 38-year-old actress opened up about Hillary Clinton's loss, and how she feels it has affected her 10-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise.

"I know I thought Hillary was going to win this year, and it was such a... it just hurt so badly when she didn’t," Holmes told Bush Hager. "And I know that it hurt my child so much as a 10-year old, and it really made me think, 'Oh we have a lot…a long way to go as women.'"
"We have to raise our girls to be very strong, not just for themselves, but to open the doors for other people. Because as hard as we think we have it, there’s so many women in the world that have it so much harder and we really need to be strong and help them. And help each other so that strength is number one and, having a great education," she added.
Holmes attended several Clinton fundraisers while the politician was campaigning for the presidency, and even introduced Suri to Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea.
The two also reminisced about how it was Bush Hager whom she called up while doing research for her role in 2004's First Daughter.

"I was in Austin, Texas," Bush Hager recalled. "[Your character] was at, like, frat parties, so it was sort of stereotyping, I think, what I was going through. But you called me and I am such a fan of yours, but I loved Dawson’s Creek."
"It was the era of Dawson’s Creek. And I was in college and we were watching, and then I was with my girlfriends and I get a message from Katie Holmes. And I’m like, who is this person pranking me? Who can this be? And I just knew that you didn’t want to stay in my dorm room in Austin, Texas, so we never made that happen," she joked.
"I will say, that they did try to match us up with younger secret service men, so that they could blend in on college campus, so that research was well done," Bush Hager continued of how the movie stacked up against her real life.
"So you never fell…Did you ever kiss?" Holmes asked.

"I never…wait, I was just turned tables on this interview. No, we never kissed. I might have had one friend that kissed one, though," Bush Hager explained. "I may have had one friend towards the end because I was, like, 26. So I was a little older."
Holmes has since moved on from playing the first daughter to the first lady. See the actress in character as Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys: After Camelot in the video below.
