Johnny Depp Bemoans 'Hoopla' That Comes With Being a Famous Actor in First Interview Since Amber Heard Divorce

The actor did not address the controversy directly, but expressed dissatisfaction with the Hollywood press circuit.

Johnny Depp is slowly venturing back into public life.

The 53-year-old actor followed up a surprise appearance at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles over the weekend by appearing with his band, the Hollywood Vampires, on L.A.'s 95.5 KLOS Jonesy's Jukebox on Monday, to discuss music and the band's recent tour.

While not directly addressing his divorce from Amber Heard, or the abuse allegations the 30-year-old actress has made against him, Depp did strike a melancholy cord, expressing dissatisfaction with the public side of being a famous actor.

"The drag is all the hoopla that happens," Depp told the radio host, adding that he basically started acting by "accident, to pay rent," and that music was actually his first love.

"I like the process of it... I don't wanna be a product," he continued. "I don't watch the movies, so for me all I have is the experience."

For now, the legal battle between Depp and Heard has been postponed to August. Heard was granted a temporary restraining order last month after alleging the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was both emotionally and physically abusive towards her throughout their relationship. Depp has not addressed the claims directly, however his lawyer, Laura Wasser, has claimed in previous court documents that the actress is "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."
