Whoopi Goldberg announced on Wednesday that she's founding a medical-marijuana company for women.
Whoopi Goldberg announced on Wednesday that she's founding a medical marijuana company along with edibles maker Maya Elisabeth, which will be releasing products designed to provide menstrual cramp relief.
"I am thrilled to partner with the amazing Maya Elisabeth to provide women an alternative for relieving the pain and discomfort associated with menstruation. This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief," Goldberg told ET in a statement. "The only products available to us were filled with ingredients we couldn't even pronounce and I discovered that I was not alone in this. When I looked further, I learned that this area was considered a 'niche' ... a 'niche' that includes half of the population! I was fortunate enough to be connected to Maya and this company is the result of that collaboration."

Unlike the medicines she used previously, Goldberg says that her products will contain familiar ingredients, so that customers know exactly what they're getting. The company, Whoopi & Maya, will make their items available starting in April.
"Whoopi & Maya has the opportunity to set the gold standard for the medical cannabis industry. We have given ourselves a mandate to not only provide a quality therapeutic product, but also to educate the public and support social reform," Goldberg said.
Elisabeth added, "We are an ambitious company entering an ambitious industry and can't wait to expand our product offerings and geographic reach."

Goldberg has been open about her medical-marijuana use, which she says gives her relief from glaucoma-related discomfort.
"The vape pen has changed my life. No, I'm not exaggerating," Goldberg told The Cannabist in 2014. "In fact, her name is Sippy. Yes, she's a she. And yes, I named her Sippy because I take tiny, little sips -- sassy sips, even -- from her. And with each sip comes relief -- from pressure, pain, stress, discomfort."
Upon launching, Whoopi & Maya's Signature Line will offer four initial products: raw sipping chocolate infused with either CBD or THC, THC-infused tincture, relaxing THC-infused bath soak and topical rub for localized pain.
